Firsthand History,
By Edward L. Harding (Washington, North Carolina United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Civil War Extra: A Newspaper History of the Civil War from 1863 to 1866 (Hardcover)
I have read this book and it is so great to be able to read the accountings of the War for Southern Independence from newspapers around the country during this time in our country's history. In today's times of political correctness, events which happened during the War are either left out of books or the history is rewritten to suit the author's perception of what happened. That is not the case with this book. It's history as it happened. Of course many articles are biased toward the North and South, but that's how newspapers are and always will be...biased in one way or another. The articles, the maps, even the advertisements printed were most informative and educational. This book was very good reading and was hard to put down. I would recommend this book to anybody, and would even recommend it as extra reading for history classes in schools. Mr. Caren collected and held on to many great sources for future generations to insure what happened during these years will never be forgotten.
