4.0 out of 5 stars
Light and fun, March 10, 2011
This review is from: Civil War: Heroes for Hire (Civil War (Marvel)) (Paperback)
Heroes For Hire is the follow-up to an earlier miniseries Daughters of the Dragon, it's an old fashioned sort of book where Misty Knight (a cyborg cop) and Coleen Wing (a katana-wielding martial artist) along with their team of 'kung-fu sex bombs' take on a variety of Z-list super villains. They also get briefly involved in Marvel's Civil War crossover but Grey and Palmiotti fit it in seamlessly.
The dialogue is deliberately cheesy, reminding me of old Hong Kong movies and 70s comics. No one, including the writer and the characters, seems to be taking this too seriously. Think of Tarantino film with superheroes.
This book would rate just 3 stars or maybe 2 except for Billy Tucci's art. He draws sexy women, strong men and cool fights.
This series didn't last long, just 15 issues, 3 volumes. It quickly lost steam but was fun while it lasted.
