The Aftermath,
By Zachary Koenig "K-Dawg" (Forest Lake, MN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Civil War, Ken Burn's Episode 9: The Better Angels Of Our [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This ninth installment of Ken Burns' Civil War documentary deals with the "clean-up" of the North/South conflict after the surrender at Appomattox courthouse, including focusing on these key areas:-Information on what happened to key generals (Grant, Lee, McClellan, Hooker, etc.) of the war once the fighting ceased. -The capture of Confederate President Jefferson Davis and how he took to his grave the idea that his Confederacy was the nobler cause of the battle. -The sad truth that, although the Union technically freed black slaves in the South, it would be another entire generation before those blacks gained any sort of realistic freedom in this country. |
