1.0 out of 5 stars One huge problem *EDITED* December 21, 2008
Fun: 2.0 out of 5 stars
This game is beautifully done, with great graphics and very well-hidden objects. Unfortunately, one flaw renders it unplayable under some circumstances - the mouse does not move all the way to the edge of the screen. I'm stuck at a point where I know exactly where the object is (a hint wasted even confirmed this is, indeed, the correct object) but I cannot get the mouse to move close enough to select it. I've clicked dozens of times all around it (and lost many minutes!) and still, it will not select the object. Unfortunately, short of starting as a new player and hoping I don't get that particular object again (or any in a similar position), I don't see a way to overcome this issue.

Which is sad, otherwise, the game seems very nice, but it is simply too frustrating that you cannot do what you see needs to be done to progress the game. I've tried a few times, and always run up against this issue. I don't know how to correct it, so I'm simply uninstalling the game and hopefully forgetting about it.

There is a way around the problem - someone told me the secret! You have to start the game, then go to the main menu and uncheck 'full screen'. Click 'okay' to resume the game (which will now be small and windowed, too small to play with how tiny some of those objects are!) and then go *back* to the main menu and re-check 'full screen'. You will now be able to move all the way to the edges. I'm not sure if I'd change my star rating even if I could (maybe up the 'fun' item) because that's such an annoying flaw.

So this allowed me to play through the game and the story (history) is great, the only issue... okay, two issues. One, it's really, really short. Two, some of those items are impossible to find and there are very few hints. Seriously, the fireflies?! Who could find that one... well, I won't spoil it. But save a hint for that!

3.0 out of 5 stars Terribly annoying game, BUT... July 19, 2009
Fun: 2.0 out of 5 stars
This is the most annoying hidden object game (HOG) I've ever played, bar none. The stuff is hidden devilishly well, which is fine, but the hint system gives such weak and short-lived flashes that I've been known to go through 3 hints before even seeing what they were talking about! Earning more hints isn't fun either because it involves a large, Minesweeper-type game--one hint per win. This, too, would be fine, except there's NO partial credit. Several times I've made it to the last few boxes then had the mouse go nuts and blow the whole thing with a right click instead of a left one. SO...no hints for me. :(

On the plus side, the pictures are pretty, and the added battlefield facts are quite nice. I just wish the hint system would loosen up some. The game is suitable for the hearing impaired because everything's captioned/subtitled, but I wouldn't recommend it for much vision loss.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing October 6, 2009
Fun: 2.0 out of 5 stars
I bought this game as part of a set with Hidden Mysteries - Buckingham Palace. I enjoyed the historical information and game play in the Buckingham Palace game; but this Civil War counterpart was FAR LESS FUN and VERY DARK. It was difficult to view whole sections of the screen, because the coloring seemed overly dark.

My biggest frustration was the miniscule size of many of the objects. The game creator apparently found it too difficult to artistically conceal all of the various objects, so he/she resorted to making some of them so tiny that the gamer would need a magnifying glass to actually identify those objects. That shows a lack of talent as a game creator. The objects should be 'hidden' not just reduced to a size that makes them almost invisible. The talent lies in the imaginative way that the objects are blended into their environment.

I got tired of this game is a very short time. I will enjoy the Buckingham Palace instead.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very fun history game December 28, 2008
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I bought this for my 7 year old son. It is very similar to I Spy. You look for hidden objects in different types of scenery, or "battle locations" would describe it better. The graphics are wonderful, and so are the sound efffects. I had no problem with the mouse, but at one point we were clicking on the correct item and it wouldn't work, so we just went to the main map and then back to the item and it worked just fine. It is a fun and mildly challenging game with a whole lot of Civil War history thrown in.

Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
I bought this game because I'm a huge fan of hidden object computer games. I'm also a Civil War buff. This game is a nice combination of the two.

My only bone of contention is that it's almost TOO straightforward. It was fairly easy, and replaying the game is boring because you've done it all already. There is really no change to the game.

Great graphics, great use of historical knowledge, but a very basic game. If this game cost $10 or less it would be more worth it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Frustrating game December 10, 2010

Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
I have been playing these games for awhile. The challenge in this game is finding some of the objects. They are so tiny I had to use magnifying glass to play just to move to the next location. It was frustrating. The game to get more hints is impossible since I never played the online game that's similar. I liked the premise of the Civil War and the historical facts. Brief discriptions of what happened at each battle. I have played better games......
