This book should be well-liked by collectors and historians interested in the Civil War Sharps. I especially appreciated the raw purchase and issue data provided in the book. I do have one complaint. I was a bit disappointed in the lack of ANY reference to the New Model 1865 carbines and rifles. Like pretty much every other Sharps book out there, this one seems to pretty much ignore it and treat any raw data as though it was for the New Model 1863. I would appreciate it if at least one author would fess up and admit (in their book) that model-specific data on the 1865 just isn't out there, if that is the reason they are ignoring it. If there is information out there, these authors should provide it in the book.

If you are a collector of the Sharps rifle, or just Civil War History buff then you will find this book a excellent reference, regarding rifles used in the Civil War particularly the Sharps Rifle.

I purchased my first Sharps Carbine and as always, I try to find a book to correspond to the firearm I buy. Not knowing a great deal about the Sharps, I found this book to be a great reference for the novice and the more experienced collector. The information contained in this book exceeded my expectations. The list of serial number issued to various regiments was of great value! This book is highly recommended!

I recently purchased a civil war Sharps carbine and wanted to know any of its history. This book not only listed my serial number, but also the unit it was issued to, and also the name of the trooper who carried it in the cival war. Really nice to know info on an old carbine.
