5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product
Nice alternative for the ordinary retractable ID badge holder, for it has a very strong cable compare to a nylon one.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not Good But Not Horrible
I use my keys about 100 times a day, so when the retractor broke after 5 months of constant use I was disappointed but not bitter. For the price it's decent but not if you have to use it as a daily component of your job.

5.0 out of 5 stars Using as a retractable badge reel, January 29, 2012

I'm using my gear retractor as a retractable ID badge reel at work. I can't comment on how well it functions holding more significant weight, but I have it holding three cards and a key on a ring. I've been using it for a couple of years now, and it's still going strong. It's not uncommon for me to snag it on boxes since I work in a warehouse. Before this, I went through the cheaper badge reels quite frequently. I would have easily spent several times the cost of this retractor if I'd continued using those. I also bought one for my coworker at the same time, and hers has also survived with no signs of giving up. I can recommend this as a retractable ID badge reel without hesitation.

One note is that you'll probably have to slightly modify it. I removed the top clip by opening the small ring and then re-closed the ring around the clip on my lanyard.

I ordered one of these but wasn't sure how small or strong it was. This retractable key fob is AMAZING! It is about the size of two quarters and not much heavier. The cable is steel and -very- strong, the pull is firm and solid. HIGHLY recommended for anyone who wants a retractable key fob that takes up nearly no room at all in your pocket!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good and lightweight, November 6, 2011

I've had this product for a few weeks now and I'm very happy with it. I do a lot of physical activity at work and wear coveralls but always need to have my work keys with me. With all those pockets and bending it is very easy for keys, phones etc. to fall out. The cable is long enough for me to reach any lock and it's very lightweight so it doesn't feel like I've added another pound of gear to wear. It won't retract much weight (barely works on my leatherman skelitool) so if you have a ton of keys I'd look elsewhere. But if you have 10 or so and want to not add a lot of weight and bulk to your belt, this is a good option.

5.0 out of 5 stars Compact and excellent quality..., July 13, 2011

Compact and excellent quality - this is my 2nd unit (I broke my 1st one - my fault) For over a year, I have been using this retractable system with my cell phone in combination with a belt clip. Before I invested in this system, I was always losing my phone and leaving it somewhere or dropping on the ground. Never again!

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice, heavy duty retractor chain, June 6, 2011

I was looking for a retractable key chain for my husband who is a handyman. He's dropped his keys a couple of times when doing landscaping work and had to search for them. I didn't want the normal ones which can easily break and when I saw this one was steel, I bought it. It's very heavy duty. My husband loved it and it holds up well to the abuse of pulling out and retracting many times a day. This was an excellent product.

I needed a key chain with a retractable line for my keys at work. I have to use various keys and this key chain has a metal line and is very strong. The last one I had broke and I needed a better one. I would recommend this key chain to anyone who has to carry various keys with them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sturdy stainless steel feels built to last, December 13, 2009

I looked at several of these for something to attach a knife to my jacket for sailing. I needed something strong, for occasional use, and something that could withstand water. Since I just got it and used it once I can't comment on its longevity, but everything about it looks and feels right, especially compared to some of the lighter duty ones I saw when shopping.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mixed Feelings about this, January 26, 2011

So here we go. This is the 3rd one I have purchased and it will be the last. The first one died a horrible death and disentegrated. I was sitting in a chair at work and got up and the retractor was hung on something and it exploded when I stood up. So I got a 2nd one and it has been ok, paint on the case scratches very easily. My heartache with them is the first two had cheap metal crimped connections betweeen the hook and the rest above and below the body. First thing I did was swap those out with split rings from a small maglite. The design of thing is such that it dangles nearly 4 inches tip to tip. So add four inches to anything you attach to it. I found it was useful to have a locker key secured to it tucked into my front pocket. Originally wanted to secure a thumb drive to my backpack but it was too long and too "cluttered" looking.

Again it's not really the manufacturers fault. It's really strong for what it is. The cable is nice and all but if you snag it like I did--it won't stand up to the fwd momentum of a 200lb man. If you are securing an ID to yourself the hole for the ID will break before this will. In their defense the 3rd one came with the split ring mod I did to the first two. I really do like it and give it 5 stars for quality MINUS two for price. Way too expensive. I found a Nikon one similar design for 1/3 the price. Not pretty as this but just as functional. Also like the other reviews. If you keep weight on it, eventually the spring looses tension and it droops an inch or two.
