5.0 out of 5 stars Great resource book to search for abandoned property, August 18, 1999

This review is from: How To Claim Your Money (Paperback)
As an attorney who has practiced law in the State of New York for 19 years, I was happy to find this publication for my library which can assist in the search and discovery of abandoned property in each and every State. This book is a simple yet comprehensive research tool which can immediately place a person in touch with public officials in each of the 50 states to enable a search to be conducted for lost or abandoned property. It lists the name, address, telephone number and, where applicable, internet web site and e-mail address of the public official in every state who is entrusted with holding and returning abandoned property. As many of us know, there are many situations where a person's money or property can be deemed abandoned and transferred to the State. The property may be abandoned bank accounts of living or deceased account-holders, a refund of insurance premiums, Social Security benefits and death benefits, tax refunds, HUD FHA premiums and found property. Over the years I have had many occasions to search for property which may have been abandoned, primarily in the handling of elderly clients and decedent's estates. Frequently, a person will open an account or a safe deposit box with a financial institution and simply forget about its existence. In such a case, after a period of time, the financial institution will deem the account to be abandoned and transfer the funds to the State. In representing elderly clients and in handling decedent's estates a search should always be conducted to determine the existence of bank accounts and Social Security benefits which may have been abandoned. I have successfully recovered from the State of New York abandoned insurance premiums and abandoned insurance commissions on behalf of several several clients using the information contained in this book. Also, the book contains information relating to how holacaust victims and survivors may seek compensation from the holacaust survivor fund. Every lawyer, private investigator, banker and insurance agent should have a copy of this book.
