5.0 out of 5 stars No sophomore slump for Zanetti..., October 29, 2011
By
Lynn Rush (Arizona, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Claimed (Paperback)
Rebecca Zanetti's sophomore title sure delivered. Dage is an awesome leader. Emma a brilliant heroine. Stubborn, strong, weak, enduring all rolled into a beautiful woman.

I loved all the action in this one. Tons of fighting and battling. I have to admit, though, the romance part was a bit .... rougher than I care for. I kept waiting for some tenderness to be shown, yet I didn't see that. Then again, I lean more toward the softer side of romance so it's just personal preference.

It was fun watching their transformations together. How they started becoming one with their powers and how strong Dage turned out to be. The plot is deep and well structured as are the characters. I really like the introduction of the new characters, which I hope eventually have their own stories.

Especially the witches.

I really love Rebecca Zanetti's writing. So visual and engrossing, I can't put her books down until I've read just one more chapter (and lost hours of sleep!) Her story telling skills are right up there with the best in the paranormal romance business. She's on my auto-buy list for sure.

Nicely done, Rebecca.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hot! Like a dang jalapeno! YUM!, October 26, 2011
Can you say delicious? I can... CLAIMED.

Just when I thought Fated was as spicy as Zanetti could get, she whips out Claimed and I gotta say, the heat is on (totally stole that from a song).

I don't summarize, but the action is phenom! Love her voice and the way she weaves a sexy tale!

READ IT! Now. Hurry!

3.0 out of 5 stars Claimed, December 23, 2011
This review is from: Claimed (Paperback)
I am going to start off by saying that I loved Emma! She didn't cause me to want to pull my hair out like her sister Cara (the heroine in book 1). Claimed starts off with Dage rescuing Emma from the Kurjans. Emma has been on the run for 5 weeks and the Kurjans has finally caught up to her. Like Cara, Emma has extra abilities; she's a psychic. Emma has been dreaming about Dage since she was a teenager so there is no surprise when she is face-to-face with him. Dage is psychic also and he has known for centuries that Emma is his destined mate. Emma has known this as well but she does not want to become his mate because she had a vision of her eventual death and how it destroys Dage.

The sexual tension between Dage and Emma is so believable. Emma does not make it easy for Dage. She knows all about the mating and the branding but she is not going to give in. Her goal is to find a cure for the drug that the Kurjans had her working on and then moving on with her life. She has no plans on becoming the Kind of the Realm's mate, destiny or no destiny. Dage has other plans for Emma. He has been dreaming about her for centuries and there's no way he is going to let her slip away easily.

I felt that Dage and Emma's relationship had more heat and tension that made the romance between them more believable. In the first book, Fated, Cara gave in too early to Talen and Talen didn't come off as the alpha male that we are supposed to believe him to be. Emma is a geneticist so when she is trying to find a way to counteract the virus that the Kurjans injected into Cara and Katie, there is a lot of scientific jargon throughout the book. Some of it made my eyes glaze over and I felt that at times, it was too detailed.

I enjoyed reading Claimed and I look forward to reading the next installment in the series. We got a peak at Conn and Moira's interaction and relationship in this book and it looks like Moira will be another woman who won't easily give into a Kayr man.

I suggest checking out this series if you're looking for a different take on vampires. The series, for me, continues to get better with each book.

5.0 out of 5 stars I just love this series!, November 1, 2011
This review is from: Claimed (Paperback)
Dage, as king of the Realm, has the incredibly important job of keeping his race and other paranormals safe from the Kurjans. Those intent of kidnapping human with special abilities, so they can breed with them. One such woman is Emma, a brilliant scientist who may hold the key to unraveling a devastating illness affecting other mates and breeding women.

Faced with startling revelations that she is Dages impending Queen and the even more startling, she wants him...Emma can't decide what to do. Does she go with her heart and become a breeding mate, even if Dage does set her body on fire by merely glancing at her? Does she go with her mind and focus on solving the genetic mystery surrounding everyone she loves? Or can she do both without losing herself in the process?

I don't know about anyone else, but I waited for this book with bated breath! When it showed up everything else in my TBR pile suddenly disappeared and this one became my sole focus. I was not let down! I loved Claimed nearly as much as I loved the first book, Fated. Rebecca Zanetti seems to be able to catch my attention and hold me enraptured throughout the process. Never a dull moment. Always sexy.

Dage was scary hot. He often referred to Emma as "mate' which I found incredibly sexy. There is just something about a big, scary hulk of a man calling his woman "mate" in such a sexy domineering way. Yes, it's over the top, yes its extremely dominate but I love it. I think it works because of the females. They may waver at the beginning, try to run from the emotional connection they are fighting within, but in the end they give themselves over to what I can only describe as magical.

I enjoyed Emma a lot. I loved her protective streak and thought her willingness to try to shield Cara was endearing. Her ability as a geneticist was a perfect addition and of course worked well with the story line of a blood disease and DNA issues. Having said all that she got on my nerves with her wavering on becoming a mate to Dage. She had to have known the day was coming since she'd been seeing this man in her dreams for years. Yet when they finally come together she tells him constantly she is leaving. I knew she'd never leave her sister there with Talen and so I thought her posturing was a bit over the top...she was going to stay.

Claimed furthers the secondary story lines with all the other Kayrs brothers (and some others) and it only sealed my excitement for the next one! I can't wait to learn more about the individual brothers and the cat sifters. The Kurjans are a formidable foe and their methods are scary. I shudder to think of when their young prodigy grows up what will happen to Cara's (and Emmas niece) extremely powerful daughter Janie. I love her innocent, yet wise beyond her years, additions to the book. She provides much needed information when the brothers don't know where else to go. I look forward to watching her progression through out the series since the brothers are so protective of her.

Emma and Dage burn through each and every page! His push and her pull creating an incredible friction that lights the page on fire! Rebecca Zanetti combines excellent story telling and incredible world building to give readers a sexy thrill ride wrought with action they won't forget!

I give Claimed by Rebecca Zanetti 5 stars!

5.0 out of 5 stars 4.5 Stars for some very sexy vampires!!, October 25, 2011
This review is from: Claimed (Paperback)
Amazing new take on vampires, Ms. Zanetti's vampires are innovative and exciting!

Emma Paulsen has been on the run for weeks. She is trying to escape the Kurjans and now also the Vampires. During her work as a geneticist she discovers that she isn't researching a cure for cancer but something more sinister. Grabbing her research and running is her only option. A race of evil beings called Kurjans are hunting her down for more than her research though. While on the run she discovers another race of beings, the Vampires, enemies of the Kurjans. Unknown to her, one particular vampire wants more than the stolen research; he wants her as his mate.

For several centuries Dage Kayrs has dreamed of his mate; her face, her body, her warm embrace. Now he knows she is out there and he is determined to find her. Not only to save her from the Kurjans, but to save himself. As King of the Realm he needs her to complete him. He knows she will be a hard woman to claim, but he is determined to have her anyways.

This is the second book in Ms. Zanetti's exciting new series. Her universe of vampires is refreshing and exhilarating. These are probably the most human vampires I have read about. While they have elements of some of my favorite vampires, they are in a class all their own. Both the Vampires and the Kurjans can only be male, so they have to look outside their race to find mates, but only certain females will work. They need females with physic abilities. The Kurjans have developed a virus that attacks the mates of the Vampires. Emma is in a race to find a cure to save both her sister and her unborn nephew.

This series has a strong undercurrent of adventure, almost overshadowing the romance. The medical lingo and background does not take away from the general story, but enhances it. Ms. Zanetti has developed an engaging and exciting new world.

The males in this series are a hard group to love. They are extremely alpha and exasperating at times. Their raw masculinity and power draw you in and holds on tight. Luckily the heroines are just as strong and know how to bring these big brutes to their knees.

If you are looking for a new adventure in the paranormal world, look no further then this new series. Fated and Claimed both have heart pounding action and sizzling chemistry, what more can you ask for!

Claimed is book two in the Dark Protectors series. It picks up where Fated left off. Emma has been kidnapped and Dage goes after her. There is a virus that is hurting the vampire's mates. Emma is trying to find a cure before it hurts Cara or anyone else. This book has action, romance, and a wonderful cast of characters! I am anxiously awaiting Hunted which comes out in April! If you haven't already read Claimed and Fated, you should. They are awesome!

A Daring Rescue

Emma Paulsen is a geneticist driven by science. But she's also a psychic, so when a dark, good-hearted vampire frees her from the clutches of the evil Kurjans, she realizes he must be the man who's been haunting her dreams. But with a virus threatening vampires' mates, Emma may discover a whole new meaning of "lovesick". . .

A Deadly Decision

As King of the Realm, Dage Kayrs has learned to practice diplomacy. Still, it's taken three hundred years to find his mate, so he'll stop at nothing to protect her--even if it means turning his back on his own kind. . .

Emma Paulsen is an independent woman and a research scientist. She's also a strong psychic, which is why both the good guys and the bad guys want her. Her bigger problem is that Dage Kayrs, as King wants her for more than her brains or gift. He wants her as his Queen and means to claim her while she's still alive.
Emma is fighting Dage off as hard as she can; she refuses to give up her independence and freedom to choose her own path. Unfortunately Dage has marked her and with this on top of the war going on, and the research she must finish she feels stretched to her limits.
This is the second book in this new series, the first being Fated. I found this book to be an exciting and fast read. You get pulled into the story and immediately feel called upon to take sides. You will cheer when Emma pulls a fast one, or maybe you'll cheer when Dage wins an argument with his detractors. However you find yourself, it will be a real roller coaster ride of adventure, love, and thrills.
