5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic, Practical Book on Self Esteem, October 9, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I've read many books on the topic of self esteem, and I have to say that this one was the most helpful. It has practical steps that will help you reprogram the way you think, and how you interpret events, in ways that are more beneficial to self-esteem. It helps you to understand and recognize your own thought patterns and how they effect the way you feel about yourself. The exercises are useful, and very eye opening. This book teaches you how to be honest with yourself, and embrace your own experiences. I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars An end to dating a Sociopath..., May 14, 2002
By

This review is from: Claiming Your Self Esteem: A Guide Out of Codependency, Addiction, and Other Useless Habits (Paperback)
This book has been essential in my desire to break out of the constant dance I found myself in with a sociopathic person. It establishes criteria for co-dependent behavior through bulleted lists and examples which thereby enable you to objectively realize situations you seem to find yourself in and often wonder why. This book not only identifies the symptoms we all seem to focus too heavily on, but also on the ever more important problem that creates the symptoms. By identifying these problems and understanding why they occur, you are better equipped to begin making substantial changes in your life. This book prevented me from falling back into the same self-defeating patterns and create a new life for myself. My highest recommendation and thanks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just Buy It!, September 8, 2002

This review is from: Claiming Your Self Esteem: A Guide Out of Codependency, Addiction, and Other Useless Habits (Paperback)
The reason I found this page is because I went online looking for the authors email adress to thank her. You dont get much more of a recommendation than that.
The diference I feel within 3 days of buying this book is amazing. Its true it the first 'self Help' book I have bought. However this book feels like it was written just for me. The examples and explanations of Low Self Esteeme and what it does to you, is so exact, that it makes me disappointed that I havent done something about myself earlier.

Carolyns writing feels like a friend trying to help. The writing is clear ,simple ,kind and motivating. Its simple to follow and I love the fact that she describes how things work and why they happen. To me ,if I understand something, I can work with it.

As my heading states.. If you even thinking you need this book.. then just buy it.

The best $$'s I have ever spent on myself.

Thank you to the Author.

Rob

5.0 out of 5 stars This book helped me dramatically, April 18, 2007
This review is from: Claiming Your Self Esteem: A Guide Out of Codependency, Addiction, and Other Useless Habits (Paperback)
I find myself constantly recommending this book everywhere. "Claiming Your Self-Esteem" has definitely changed my life.

Before I read this book, I was a very codependent person. What drove me to buy this book was a petty argument with my coworker. Additionally, I had been driving my boyfriend crazy with my constant self-doubt and dependence on him, bringing people down with my negativity, and scaring friends away with sudden overreactions to trivial things.

Within two months of starting to read this book, I start to grow into a more loving person: truly understanding, much calmer, and finally with self-love.

What makes this book work is that it not only says what you need to do and points out the benefits of loving yourself, it also teaches you HOW to do love yourself.

This book has taught me how to how to confront and fix my old problems (that I used to always run away from), quiet the internal negative dialogue (that constantly plagued my mind for most of my life), how to meditate and listen to my body's cues, and (probably the most important) how to forgive myself and love myself unconditionally.

As a result, I've also learned how to get along better with others, and I am much more aware of people's behavior because I understand my own behavior.

I have been reading this book for only 5 months, but I feel like I have grown so much since then. Thank you, Carolyn Ball, for writing.

It helped me so much, words can't express it completely. I agree with what Rob wrote, and I did write Carolyn a Thank You letter when I finished reading it. I'm in the process of recommending it to a friend because I see the same pain in her life that I had in mine. Basically, this book shows you how your thoughts and perceptions become your reality. You are who you think you are. So simple, really, yet so powerful! I highly recommend this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Tremendous help!, November 8, 2009
This review is from: Claiming Your Self Esteem: A Guide Out of Codependency, Addiction, and Other Useless Habits (Paperback)
I picked up this book after being in one codependent relationship after another. I felt I deserved very little, and was unlovable therefore I chose people who didn't love and cherish me. I had to make a change. My self esteem was in ruins and this book helped me to jump start the process of telling myself the truth and allowing my emotions to run free in order to heal.
It isn't easy, but this book gives you steps to work through in very simple terms. I am so excited to begin this new chapter in my life. This book is for me and those who are ready to dig deep and see the beauty within, find happiness that doesn't come in the form of a pill, person, or habit, and live life for you.
Thank you Carolyn....

4.0 out of 5 stars Claiming Your Self Esteem: A Guide Out of Codependency, and Other Useless Habits, September 4, 2009
This review is from: Claiming Your Self Esteem: A Guide Out of Codependency, Addiction, and Other Useless Habits (Paperback)
I found it very helpful. The book contains many practical steps to overcoming your past conditioning. It takes Albert Ellis' and Stephen Harpers' ideal that our thinking about events determines our emotional reactions (feelings} and gives the reader steps they can take to change their negative, life inhibiting behaviors. It was written for the layman in mind and for some may be very useful, for others it use in conjunction with CBT, (Cognitve Behavioral Therapy) would be ideal. I would recommend it for anyone looking to rid themselves of negative thinking about themselves

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is changing my life!!!!, August 3, 2008
This review is from: Claiming Your Self Esteem: A Guide Out of Codependency, Addiction, and Other Useless Habits (Paperback)
I have to say that the words of this book is what I have been looking for many years!!! I always knew that I had low self-esteem, but when I fell victim of a depresion, I decided to change my life and I was looking in Amazon.com the book that would probably help me. I have to say that I had already started therapy because of my depression, but I knew that the root of my problem was a lack of acceptance and love of myself. However, I really didn't know the tools that would build the self-esteem that I always longed. After reading page by page of this book, I felt that the therapist was actually giving me a personal session and I started doing all the exercises that she suggested. I cannot say that I have incledible self-esteem, but it has improved tremendously. I can tell you that I love and respect myself unconditionally now.

I had the pleasure of having Carolyn as my counselor as I worked through the break up of my marriage, and we used this book as part of my sessions. Thanks to Carolyn and this book I was able to recover from a many years long depression caused in part by thinking I could make someone else happy. I learned that the only person I can make happy is me, and I took control of my life again.

Thank you Carolyn. You've truly helped me get my life back.
