Clairion Comfort Plus 3-Gallon Warm-Mist Humidifier

The Clairion was easy to clean, sure. Problem is, ours stopped working. I'm talking, just two weeks of ownership and it gave up on us, we had done everything the right way, cleaned it, filled it up like they said, etc. So I contacted Clairion and part of their reply was -- and I quote -- "Take the humidistat out of the humidifier and look for the 3 slits below the restart button, take a hair dryer and send some warm air into those slits for 5 minutes. That usually recalibrates the humidifier." Oh, okay, I'm gonna use a hair-dryer to fix my humidifier. Yeah, right. Wanna know what I REALLY did? I put my Clairion in the trash, went out and bought a humidifier by a Korean company, Levant. Best humidifier I ever bought. Avoid Clairion at all costs!

After a few weeks of use, one of the tanks is leaking. The humidistat (such as it is) is prone to mood swings. I will be replacing this and avoiding Clairion.

Overall, I was very disappointed with this humidifier, and have ordered a replacement from a different brand.

The tanks are more difficult to fill then they should be. The design of the tanks is that the handle is on the top, and the fill is on the bottom. That means that there is no convenient place to hold the tank while filling.

When you wash the outside, make sure the entire center column is dry. Otherwise water seeps into the humidistat, and the humidifier will not function for a day or two until it dries. Other models place the humidistat safely away from water.

The humidistat on my unit gets less sensitive over time, so the humidifier does not come on. I have to unscrew the unit and shim the controls. Clairion has not responded to an online service request.

For a $90 premium humidifier, I suggest considering other units. I especially like a Holmes humidifier, with a digital humidistat.

Overall, a well designed unit - 3 gallon water capacity, very easy to clean (tanks and vaporizing unit all remove easily). Unfortunately, this unit is VERY NOISY - extremely distracting even when in the far corner of my 500 sq ft room. So noisy I had to send it back. While I applaud the excellent design in terms of water capacity and cleaning, I'd never recommend this unit because of the noise level.

Pro:

The unit was very easy to take apart and clean. That's the main reason I bought it. I didn't want the hassle of constantly replacing wicks or trying to clean heating elements that were impossible to reach.

Cons:

The handles are on the opposite side as the refill opening. So picking it up after filling it is more difficult than it should be.

The boiling water is very loud. To be honest, I thought this would bother me more than it did. I had no problem sleeping through the noise even though it was maybe 10 feet from the bed.

The humidistat is inside the unit right next to the heating element. Even though I cleaned and dried the unit each day, after about a week, the humidistat became very cranky. It would shut the humidifier down and I couldn't get it to restart. Then after a couple of days, it would dry out (I'm guessing) and work again. Then stop working after a few days.

There must be better warm mist humidifiers that are easy to clean and actually work for $90. This was a piece of junk.

I was happy with this humidifiers performance in regards to how quickly it humidifies the room, however it was very noisy and difficult to fill. Another reviewer reported that the humidistat is very cranky, which is accurate. Sometimes it will go for a day or two without working because of a damp humidistat. I would not recommend this unit, especially for the cost. I understand that Clarion no longer makes this model anyway!

I like this unit as it holds a TON of water in the two tanks, and it's easy to use. Cleaning the buildup off of the heating element is a bit of a pain (we have very hard water), but I don't have to do it that often. The tanks are a bit awkward, but the design is reasonable. It puts out a TON of steam, though it is rather noisy when it does (don't try to run it in your bedroom at night).

The only issue is that after two years of great operation, it started to have a humidistat problem that prevented it from starting sometimes. However, thanks to the comment of Mr. Mullin, and the feedback from the user who tried the hair dryer fix, I resolved this issue very quickly. 2 mins with the hair dryer fixed it right up and I considered this to be a very simple fix (can't imagine discarding the unit for something this easy, but I would like to know what the better unit is so I can consider that for my next purchase!).

I like the hot mist type as it avoids the mould and mineral problems that can cause allergy and health issues for many people.

Overall, a good unit.

Clarion, this unit is the best one I have ever found to clean. Most units create mold, especially when used often due to their designs. Your unit is the easiest to clean ever. It is amazing that it is dishwasher safe as well.

Unfortunately the basic functionality issues prevent the unit from working properly.. something most other units do pretty easily. Please fix that part & I'll keep your unit the next time I buy it.

I have two Clairion 3-gallon humidifiers and I love them. They work well and are very easy to maintain. I am so disappointed that they are not being sold here on Amazon because I wanted to buy two more.

I am quite concerned with maintaining the cleanliness of my humidifiers and originally I intended to buy an ultra-violet light model. I went to Brookestone, and there I had the idea of asking to look at the instruction manual before purchasing the humidifier. I was blown away by how much maintenance was required. So I went home and researched some more, and discovered this humidifier.

The only negatives: I like the blue and white color scheme that is popular among humidifiers, and would prefer that to the beige/brown color scheme of the Clairion. And the do make noise. Not an annoying noise. Definitely white noise. But they are not silent.

I see from other reviews that some people have been unhappy, but mine work well and are easy to use.

my clairion puts a lot of water into the air. overall i am satisfied, though it is loud. however, I recently broke a tank while filling it (the design is a little unfriendly). does anyone have an extra tank they don't need? i believe they are interchangable. thanks.
