I've used various shades of Clairol Professional's Beautiful Collection (semi-permanent coloring) for a number of years. The product is gentle and predictable. If you don't like the color, you're not stuck with it for too long. It's very good for covering small to moderate amounts of gray hair; the gray hair looks as though one's hair has been nicely highlighted. If you have a lot of gray, however, see my note in the last paragraph of this review.

I believe unhappy reviewers had unrealistic expectations about what this product can do. Here's what it cannot do: (1) Because there's no peroxide involved, it's not going to lighten your hair one bit, whatever your natural hair color is. And if you're looking for a drastic color change (lighter or darker), this isn't the right product for that goal. (2) If you have considerable gray, it won't work as well or easily, since gray hair is more resistant to the dye. But, as noted in my last paragraph here, it still works for me despite having a lot more gray hair than I used to.

If you have much gray hair, you could try the Beautiful Collection's colors labeled "Advanced Gray Solution" (AGS) and offered in a silver-colored bottle. The AGS shade range is limited to only 5 colors, however, compared to the 20+ shades available in this line. While I found that the AGS covers larger amounts of gray more easily and longer, I couldn't find an acceptable shade similar to the one I loved so much in this line.

After experimenting with AGS shades as well as other brands of semi-permanent hair color, I ended up coming back to this product. To help get better gray coverage, I have to use it more frequently than I used to, and with longer heat processing. I still get compliments on the nice highlights and natural-looking appearance that this product yields.

I have been using this product for about 5 years, and it is Great.
It is important to get the right color shade when ordering.
It gives good natural looking color to hair, and if you just rinse your hair every day, the color will last about a month. If you shampoo every day, it will last about 2 weeks.
I have short hair, and about one tablespoon does my hair, so a bottle lasts several months.

Maybe I am using it wrong, but WOW, I squeeze some into my part, when my hair is towel dry, blow dry my hair and that is all. The color is great and perfect for that time grey part is coming and you have no time to dye entire head. It washed out soon enough. Now, when my part is showing I don;t have to run to the salon! Saving me lots of money! It also makes my hair look really great with no damaging effects at all.

This is a really good rinse. The color is even, it smells good and the formula is moisturizing. The hair comes out refreshed, soft and shiny. It's not drying at all. As a result I repurchase often in the color black to help blend with half wigs. Please be aware that this is not permanent color. It will gradually fade away with washes. It's not damaging! Therefore you can't get a blonde rinse and think your hair will come out blonde if you're already brunette without lifting. When I had thicker, longer hair (about bra strap length) I had to use two bottles to saturate all the hair. Now I only need one for shoulder length.

Activate the color with heat. Wash your hair, deep condition with a plastic cap under a hood dryer or use a blow dryer, rinse in luke warm water. Not hot water because it will dry out the hair and reverse the moisture from the deep conditioning. Not cold water because it will close the follicle and the product will not penetrate to the maximum effectiveness. Apply the product, get under the dryer again for 30 minutes and then rinse with the coldest water you can stand to close the follicle and seal the color in. Style as usual and enjoy your new color.

This is the best product if you relax your hair and then have to color it. I learned the hard way, don't mess around with anything else but Clairol's Beautiful Semi or your hair will breakout.

I mean, it's okay... It didn't dye my hair black as advertised but it did make it darker. It only lasts about a week or two though. I like this product as I am severely allergic to other black/dark hair dyes due to the PPD in them, and this dye does not contain any harsh ingredients that would cause an allergic reaction. Would recommend for those who have allergies to any other hair dyes and still want to dye their hair. :)

I know why they call it beautiful because that's exactly how my hair looks.
I have a sensitive scalp and this product is so gentle. My hair is healthy and shiny and the color is so natural.

I bought the "darkest brown" color, and I like it. I did leave it on for about an hour though and I think the directions say to leave it on for only about 20 minutes. I also have a little trick I do, where afterwords, I only rinse the color out until the water runs not quite clear. I don't shampoo it out. I feel like the residual color gets in there longer. I also mix it with some conditioner to thicken it up a bit and to add moisture. I feel like right out of the bottle, it's a little runny, so I have to be careful it doesn't drip onto my forehead.

Right after I dye it, the gray hairs turn brown, but slowly, they turn more goldeney, which I like. By that time, the gray hairs are growing in again near my scalp, so I need to do it again anyway.

It's a semi permanent, so you're not going to get as much coverage as you do with the permanents, for sure. It's not really for people who have tons or all gray hair coming out of their head. It's more for people who most of their hair is still the original color.

Love this product. It does not dry out or strip your hair, lasts about 5 days for me before I have to use again. Be careful will stain your clothes though. Leaves hair shiny and soft and your gray areas end up looking like you meant to streak it.
