As my hair turned grayer and grayer I noticed I was getting a yellow haze to the color and joked about being a "blonde" again. But I knew the color was wrong and was advised by my hairdresser to try Clairol Shimmer Lights. It absolutely does take the yellow out of the hair leaving a beautiful silver color - on me at least. I have had a lot of compliments on my hair since using this shampoo and can only think a lot of it has to do with the clear shiny silver color I now sport. Although I have read that some shampoos for silver hair end up leaving a blue tint, that has not happened with this shampoo.

I have tried many "blue-ing" shampoos. None have worked as well as this. I have tried many that were MUCH more expensive professional salon brands and they were all disappointments. I use this one, and it takes away ALL brassiness. Doesn't smell nice or pretty, and it seems a little harsh - so I only use once in a while, when I really need it. But, by far it is something I always NEED to have for my hair. I have blonde highlights and lowlights. More of a med-dark golden blonde overall, and I am telling you - THIS DOES THE JOB. JUST TRY IT ONCE!!! You won't regret it!

This was recommended by my hair stylist to take out the brassiness of my highlights. I thought it was Pretty spendy, but I figured if it helped take out some of the brassiness from my hair, I would be thankful, and I was and am still happy with the product and what it does. Definitely a 5 Star product

....BUT......................

I was at Wal-Mart the other day and randomly saw this shampoo called "Jhirmack Distinctions Silver Plus", it was in a silver and purple bottle and claimed to do the same thing so I figured I would try it because I just ran out of my Shimmer Lights and WOW is it awesome, I think it is even better then the shimmer lights.. (it is even purple and looks exactly like it is the same shampoo) and to make it EVEN BETTER... It was less than $3.00!!! Compared to $11 for the small bottle of shimmer lights... (for that kind of price difference, that is why I gave Shimmer Lights only 3 stars)

Another thing that I love about this shampoo is that when I wash my hair with it one day, I could seriously go 2 days w/o washing my hair and my hair doesn't look bad at all... I mean I usually wash my hair every day but when I go camping or have to get up super early the next morning and want to take a shower the night before it is awesome!!!

Oh, and I just want to mention, I have only ever used Shimmer Lights Shampoo and Jhirmack Shampoo, I never tried any of the conditioners. ALSO Amazon does have the Jhirmack Shampoo & Conditioner on the website, but its definitely more expensive then what I paid at Wal-Mart. (I don't know if this will help but at Wal-Mart it was to the right of all the Aussie products)

I live in Europe, and have regularly bought this shampoo each US trip for my hair, whether it is gray or tinted at the time. My hairdresser comments favorably on what it does for my hair, and it costs less than anything comparable I could find abroad.

I'm giving this a 4 because it does work...every time I use this people will ask me if I just got my hair done. It gives my blonde hair a fresh shiny look. There are a few drawbacks to this shampoo (and conditioner), Drawback #1. this stuff makes my hair impossible to brush out. I have naturally wavy hair and although i get tangles everyday this shampoo seems to make more tangles. I would suggest brushing your hair out before showering. I would also suggest taking your time detangling so you're not ripping hair out. Drawback #2. Do not use this as your everyday shampoo and conditioner. It will make your hair feel dry. I use this about 1-2 times a week. Drawback #3. Be sure you thoroughly rinse this out of your hair. There have been a few times where I noticed a purple streak in my hair and realized I didn't completely wash it out in that area. Drawback #4. If you have a white tile bathroom...be sure you wash this off and do NOT let any stray purple drops dry. I did this and after it dried it was so incredibly hard to clean out. Luckily it was my old dorm room, but I still feel bad I couldn't have cleaned it better. Just be cautious!

Overall it's a pretty good product. But use it sparingly and rinse thoroughly!

I am a light brunette with highlighted hair.
This works well with toning down brass and keeping your highlights fresh.
If you have city water or treated well water you need Shimmer Lights to keep the water borne chemicals from ruining your highlights.

Recomendations for use twice a week in summer when highlights (natural and salon peak), once in the winter to keep them fresh.

The product takes the yellow out of blond or grey hair. Makes it shine and blends salt and pepper hair.

Silver white is much nicer than yellowy gray. A little shampoo does a great job!

I had noticed that my highlights had started to take on a brassiness, so I asked my hairdresser what we could do about it, and she recommended this shampoo. It worked really well! I used it once or twice a week and it kept my highlights looking the way they should and got rid of the brassiness. It didn't stain my hands, but it did leave a slight tint around my cuticles. If you rinse it out all the way it won't harm your towels, and make sure you rinse it from the sides of your shower while you let it set for a minute, or it will leave a lavender streak. She told me not to use it too much because it can give your hair a purplish cast, so I didn't-and I was very pleased with the results!

I have been using this product for years. I intend to continue to do so. This dealer is one of few sources for the quart container. Additionally, the price is very reasonable.
