Up date February 14 2014 I have bought this Ice shelter I had a hard time finding the model number 8849 but Its Not called by a number Its called by Its name Command Post Thermal, I bought It from The Sportsman's Guide for less than $320.00 I thought It was a newer model up for the Big Foot XL 6000 which only the top Is thermal and Is 78 Inches high but this seems to be an older model that Is around 84 Inch high and that has some defects I found some web sights talking about It that the hubs break and the stitching comes apart but Is made of 600 Denier Polyester which means It will Not rot for years and worth repairing. It did have some pin holes In and lets In more light than Non thermal models It blocks out around 50 percent of light compared to Non thermal which are almost totally dark Inside. The defect on the one I got was one of the hubs was off center Not allowing the the one side to pop out right. I also have Clam 1660 Mag which almost sets Itself up but this one take a little more work. Shappell and KillZone are also made of 600 Denier Polyester but Not thermal and there are Some People that Insulates Their Ice shelter Themselves starting with putting a large aria over the wall with Aluminum tape then put some Velcro tape over the Aluminum tape that will stop It from tearing off the walls then stick Velcro on the Insulating and stick the Insulation to the walls. On this thermal Ice shelter will I use WalMart exterior house paint to paint the Inside and out as I have done on other Ice shelters which helps It last longer and covers up the pin holes. I hope Clam continues to make this model but with some Improvements of course. I Am going to use this Ice shelter as a combination shower and laundry room, does that make some of You angry? It seems to Me that You are Who has the problem.Read more ›
