About a month ago, small cracks started developing around the hinge.

It's sturdy, protects the back and sides of the iPad, the keys are spread out well and have a nice stiff springy feel, and it looks great.

The keys are sunken down into the keyboard, and with most typing strokes, you got double letters or it did not record the letter at all.

I just received the ClamCase Pro case on 3/20/13 and have used it for the past 3 days. I ordered it directly from ClamCase. I have used the Zagg Portfolio keyboard case for about 2 years and the NewTrent AirBender keyboard case for several weeks earlier this month. The ClamCase Pro is solid.

First impressions: They have learned a thing or two about product packaging and display. The case came in an Apple-worthy box, packaged nicely with its charging cable and instructions (one sheet within the closed case itself). The case itself felt solid when I took it out -- not heavy -- but put together well.

When your iPad (I have an iPad 4 with 128 GB and Verizon LTE) is in the case, it fits snugly in the holder and the whole setup feels very integrated, equivalent to a small laptop. I'd say feel wise it as at least as good as the old Sony Vaio mini 10" computers that were hot on the market about 6-7 years ago (I had a few of those). The case keyboard syncs painlessly with my iPad, charges very nicely and has a button that will let you estimate how much power the case keyboard has left by flashing a little light. The keyboard itself has all the typical keys you'd expect (home, search, lock, volume controls, media controls, command, function, control, caps lock, shift and return). I enjoy typing on this keyboard. The keys themselves have a nice feedback to them (feels like springs underneath) which I find preferable to a flat, "Chiclet" style keyboard. The keys are spaced fairly well and allow for decent typing. Given how well solid the case is when the iPad is inserted, it is easy to balance it on your lap to type when traveling. The hinge is terrific. It permits the iPad to be tilted to any position to fully folded back behind the keyboard so you can just use the iPad directly.

I loved this case when I first purchased it. The keyboard was easy to use, and the adjustable screen position was a great feature. Unfortunately, after a few months, the hinge started squeaking. A little WD40 fixed that, but I noticed that hairline cracks had appeared in the white plastic on either side of the hinge. ClamCase has a ridiculously short warranty period--120 days, and I'm about a month outside of that. So now I'll just have to hope the cracks don't grow any larger. Considering how much this costs, I shouldn't have to deal with cracks after just a few months.

Update March 30, 2014: Clamcase sent me a replacement, and within a few months, it began cracking as well. Obviously a flawed design.

I just received my Clamcase Pro yesterday and I'm very impressed. For the last couple of years I have been using the excellent Zagg Folio Keyboard/Case but I was looking for some improvements that the Clamcase Pro now provides.

Pros:

1) Fit and finish is excellent. The iPad snaps securely into place with little effort. The case has a precision look and feel to it that is very similar to Apple products.

2) Excellent keyboard with well-placed keys. Keys are island style and have an excellent springy feel. The keyboard size feels natural for my average-sized hands. Like a traditional laptop, there is space to rest your palms--which feels more natural than the Zagg Folio which doesn't have any palm space.

3) 360 degree hinge with enough friction to stay put at any degree. I wondered if the hinge might be loose enough to slip out of alignment in some positions. Not so. It will stay at any angle you adjust it to. In fact, this hinge is perhaps one of the biggest selling points of the Clamcase Pro. With the hinge, you can switch from a laptop orientation to a tablet orientation in a couple of seconds--as well as adjust it to any angle you want. I often use my iPad lying in bed at night. With the Clamcase Pro I can easily adjust it to an angle that's easy to see and use--whereas with my Zagg Folio it only had one angle available.

4)Protection. While the Clamcase Pro is less aluminum and more "polycarbonate shell", it's still pretty tough-looking and feeling.

Cons:

1) It's not "stunning aluminum" as Clamecase's website claims. The website makes it look like it's all aluminum. In fact, to quote the website it says "Thin, light and in stunning aluminum". And the photo next to that line makes it look like it entirely made of aluminum.

I purchased a ClamCase (Original). It developed. A crack at the weakest point - near the headset port. Then the keyboard stopped working. It was days out of warranty. No help from manufacturer.

I decided to take a leap of faith with the ClamCase Pro. I loved my first case. I thought...they must have worked out the bugs. Well they either have a very poor research and development division or don't test their products long term before they sell them.

This case - the hinges stick. The case has developed a crack near the hinge on one side as a result. Micro cracks on the other side. Again just out of warranty. I will not bother to write the company. Great idea. Poor quality.

I'm out over $300.00.

Long story short. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

Shame on me!
