4.0 out of 5 stars Nice clamping straight edge - recommended
I really like this straight edge/clamp system! I purchased a 36", a 50" and the 99" wide model. The 50 and 90 are perfect to rip a 4X8 sheet of plywood. I purchased th 36" for smaller jobs using the router and powered hand saw. Using this clamp guide is quick and easy and reliable. They provide a dead on straight guide.

3.0 out of 5 stars Works OK, but has limitations...
As long as you do not bear up against the edge, this guide lets you cut straight, but as I discovered cutting the bottoms off of two bathroom cabinets, if you bear against the edge with even moderate effort, the guide bows away from the line of cut, and you have damaged your workpiece.

Make sure you use the narrower models as a guide and not put a lot of side pressure on them or they will bow ever so slightly. One the wider model this is not an issue.

The reason for the 4 stars? This one didn't work right out of the box. Nothing appeared damaged or out of place. I check it all over very carefully and it just never got a grip. So maybe I got lemon but there is something wrong or missing, or in the quality control in the 36" model. It just didn't work. Thus the 4 stars. It has been returned.

Update:

The replacement arrived and it works just fine, I really like these clamps and find a variety of ways to use.

5.0 out of 5 stars 36 inch All in one Clamp, September 30, 2008

This is one of the best clamps/straight edge that I have ever purchased. I use it mostly for a Saw/Router guide. I wish I would have had them years ago. Anyone who has trouble setting up or using one of these SHOULD NOT BE AROUND POWER TOOLS OR IN A WOODWORKING SHOP.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful little gem!, October 5, 2007

I have started saving atleast 10 mins on every straight cut. Routing is made so easy with this wonderful little gem. Lay it over, clamp it and forget about it until the cut is complete. This is great for small projects, if you need to cut the 4x8 sheets, I would recommend the 50" clamp.

I compensated by increasing my cutting speed, and pushing the guide towards the tool with the thumb of the hand that wasn't gripping the tool (a cordless circular saw).

So it will work OK if you can work around it's inherent lack of rigidity. Or buy a thicker, wider guide. I may get one soon myself, as I can see myself forgetting to do the thumb-pushing trick under a heavy workload.

2.0 out of 5 stars Steel bar is junk, July 30, 2009

I really, really like these things, but they just do not last. Every single time you engage the clamp, the "chips" make a little ding in the surprisingly soft steel rod underneath. With repeated usage, you'll have a vast collection of these little dings all along the clamping bar in a matter of days, making it virtually impossible to slide the jaw/finger grip around without a great deal of force. This tends to make using this clamp a great deal more trouble than it's worth.

I also don't like the way the finger grip prevents you from sliding an average sized carpenter's square flush against the far end to check your alignment.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nicely made, clamp is hard to use, December 29, 2011

I find the small grips on the sliding clamp too hard to operate. They should be a bit wider and deeper to give you a more positive grip.

This model is too tall for my Craftsman saw to cut along the left edge (the motor body rubs the top of this clamp).

Nicely made otherwise.

I also use the Bora clamps, which seem more lightly built, but the slider has rubber grip pads and is much easier to adjust.

After using it a few times, the design could use some improvement. Overall, it works but not in as many applications as I had hoped for.

2.0 out of 5 stars marginally useful, May 17, 2010
This review is from: All in One Clamp A-36 36-Inch Grip Clamp Guide with T-Track (Tools & Home Improvement)
Not horrid but without the All in One Clamp #WJ Wide Jaws Fixture for All in One Clamp (2-Pack) for another $17 per clamp, the clamp faces are too narrow to make contact with anything but flat boards. The T track is of no use as its a peculiar size so they get to sell more accessories. They do work OK as a straight edge but not nearly as good as the Bora 540950 50 Inch Aluminum Guide Clamp Edge, they make a bunch of sizes. I thought I was getting a good deal from Rockler on a blow out of a set of 24", 36" and 50". Turns out to not be a good deal after all. I see now why they are getting rid of them cheap.

BTW I thought that the marking tape was a good idea--NOT! It is hard to align accurately and even that is dubious. Maybe OK for rough framing but not otherwise.

4.0 out of 5 stars Check for square, August 31, 2008
This review is from: All in One Clamp A-36 36-Inch Grip Clamp Guide with T-Track (Tools & Home Improvement)
It does everything I ask of it, but not always square upon setup. Check for square before the cut. I'd buy it again.

I use this frequently. Originally bought to trim about a dozen doors, I've found it is the handiest cutting guide I have. Be careful that you have the toggle handle in the right position when you snug the guide up (in other words, before you flip it tight). If it's out of position, you'll think it's tight when you flip the handle, but it will slip. Do it right and it holds perfectly.
