Biography

During the early- and mid-'70s, Wishbone Ash were among England's most popular hard rock acts. The group's roots dated to the summer of 1966, when drummer Steve Upton formed a band called Empty Vessels with bassist/vocalist Martin Turner and guitarist Glen Turner. Empty Vessels soon changed their name to Tanglewood and moved to London; during a gig at the Country Club in Hampstead, they were seen… Read more in Amazon's Wishbone Ash Store

Product Description

Wishbone Ash has had a hugely successful career on both sides of the Atlantic that stretches back over 35 years and includes 12 UK Top 40 albums. Still under the leadership of guitarist and singer Andy Powell, their brand new studio album, "Clan Destiny", features the recording debut of new guitarist Muddy Manninen, who has been playing live with the band since late 2004. This album is classic Wishbone Ash, with the famous twin lead guitar sound well to the foreground on a set of sparkling new songs.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wishbone Ash's Latest Has Gone Back To It's Seventies Roots!, May 20, 2006
By Barron Crist (Somewhere, USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I've been a huge Wishbone Ash fan since the early seventies when the band could do no wrong releasing such classic albums such as their debut "Wishbone Ash", their sophmore effort "Pilgrimmage", and their masterpiece "Argus". To say the band has been thru numerous lineups would be an understatement as the only original member is lead guitarist/vocalist Andy Powell. There are some excellent songs here such as the first track "Eyes Wide Open" which is your typical Wishbone Ash rocker. The following track "Dreams Outta Dust" is a nice mellow rocker with excellent harmonizing and again very classic Wishbone Ash. "Healing Ground" has a slight Southern Rock aka Molly Hatchet feel. "Steam Town" again has that Southern Rock feel, even the dual lead guitars have that Dixie (ala Allman Brothers) feel. The instrumental "Surfing A Slow Wave" has that sixties The Shadows feel with alot of use of the guitar tremelo bar. "Slime Time" another rocker emphasizes the dual lead guitarwork which has always been the band's trademark. "Capture The Moment" is classic Wishbone Ash and utilizes intricate guitarwork. More classic Wishbone Ash can be heard on "The Raven" again with some very impressive guitar licks. The remaining tracks "Loose Change", "Your Dog", and "Motherless Child" are also good. Thank you Andy Powell for keeping the legacy alive.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Ash classic, May 26, 2006
By R.J.N. (Illinois United States) - See all my reviews
The new album by Wishbone Ash is outstanding. This band just keeps making great music after all these years. Yes there have been many lineup changes over the years, but Andy Powell has never left. And lineup changes or not they are still WA , the signature sound is still there.
Andy's latest sidekick in the twin lead guitar act is a Finlander named Muddy Mannenin and he is excellent, he adds some tremendous slide guitar playing, probobly the best slide player they have ever had. And they also have their fine bass and drum combo that has been around for years now, Bob Skeat and Ray Westin.
In my opinion Clan Destiny is their best album in many years, if you like Wishbone Ash this is a must have, and if you are new to Ash this is not a bad place to start

5.0 out of 5 stars A Twin Guitar Triumph With Vocals to Match, August 9, 2006
Clan Destiny shows this vastly underrated band at the top of their game, after over 35 years of recording, touring and many personnel changes along the way. The band stays true to form with their signature sound still unique and fresh. This time out however, the songwriting has leapt forward and founding-member Andy Powell's vocals are stronger than previous efforts. The guitars take a back seat in some cases to the songwriting- there's less soloing than on other WA recordings but what's there serve the songs well.

From "Eyes Wide Open", the first track to the blues classic, "Motherless Child", the band takes you on a ride with superb playing and vocals.

5.0 out of 5 stars agreed with Ed Pardee's review though it's 5 stars clear because..
...because of "Surfin'a A Slow Wave". One of the best tunes Wishbone Ash ever recorded.
