3.0 out of 5 stars Too short.
Nice change of locale, but no major improvements in graphics or gameplay. Should have been offered for free as a downloadable mod from UbiSoft or Red Storm Entertainment's website.

Fun missions, but too short a campaign for the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars What I've Been Waiting For, April 1, 2002
This review is from: Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Mission Pack: Desert Siege (CD-ROM)
I bought Ghost Recon when it first came out. I looked at the back of the box, and figured I would take a shot (an expensive one) at this being a good game. I was VERY happy I did. Ghost Recon is the BEST military game EVER made. The only problem with it was that it's too short. The additional 8 missions are well worth the price. There are also some cool new weapons. The scene is the Desert, instead of country side like in the original. If you own Ghost Recon, I reccomend this expansion pack. If you don't own it, buy them together, it's winning combination.

Note: You will NEED the first Ghost Recon to run this game.

5.0 out of 5 stars Explosive Nerve-Wreaking Expansion Pack!, April 15, 2002
This review is from: Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Mission Pack: Desert Siege (CD-ROM)
Ghost Recon: Desert Siege, the new explosive action-packed expansion for the hit PC game of the year, Ghost Recon. Desert Siege, in my opinion, is a truly action-packed add-on that has nerve-wreaking game play, breath-taking graphics, and electrifying multi-player that allows you to wreak havoc on enemies. In Desert Siege, the storyline is the same, except the conflict between countries is now in Africa. When things tend to get out of hand, that's when the highly trained green berets, known as "The Ghosts", are sent out to help control extreme situations. When the U.S. sends out The Ghosts to deal with the conflict in Africa, you are forced to learn new strategies in a whole new place, the deserts! In Desert Siege, there are a lot of goodies added in this explosive expansion pack. Desert Siege now, has improved graphics, 9 new weapons, 8 new single-player missions, 5 new multi-player maps, improved enemy and friendly A.I., and of course, more obstacles containing vehicles, rocks, tents, etc. This is exactly what makes Desert Siege an exciting, nerve-wreaking, breath-taking game experience. Trust me, if you want to get a game, then get a game, but if you want to experience full-fledged excitement and danger, get Desert Siege.

NOTE: Requires full version of Ghost Recon to play Ghost Recon: Desert Siege!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great addition to an already wonderful game, April 3, 2002
By
This review is from: Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Mission Pack: Desert Siege (CD-ROM)
Ghost Recon, probably the most realistic PC FP war game ever released, just got a great add-on for a great price. Desert Siege adds much more to the gameplay then usual mission packs, and for this price you would be foolish not to get it.

I almost exclusively play multiplayer on UBI's gaming network or over my IP. This being said, its a fair statement to say that this mission pack adds an entire new world to the online gaming experience. Not only are there many new single player maps available, but also several multiplayer maps just begging for modern combat. Heck, I would have paid just for the multiplayer maps and the new 'Siege' option while in multiplayer.

Siege allows you to be on the defensive or offensive squad with the goal of capturing a marked location or defending it. This is great fun, especially with max realism and no respawns because you can picture yourself going for the objective on the map as if it were assigned to you in real life...

I dont need to go on. If you liked (or in my case, love Ghost Recon), buy this pack. Support Red Storm and be ready for an amazing fun factor with this expansion!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not better, but not bad., January 6, 2003
This review is from: Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Mission Pack: Desert Siege (CD-ROM)
It's been a long time since I have played Ghost Recon, the first game, and I was excited to penetrate into these new levels--only 8 missions, about 5 new levels, I believe--but that's all you get for something intriguing. Nothing new here except for the levels. But is that a problem?? No, not at all.

The levels are all situated in the day for the most part on hot desert lands with the sun beating down as always, and there is a level settled in the nighttime. Textures for these levels are pretty good, I must say; nicely planned out, interesting, with nice camouflage-like physical features, such as dense shrubbery, bushes, rivers, etc. Surprisingly though, there is nice topography, with mountains for good sniping and for some difficult moments. On the other hand, in quick mission mode, you are given about 15 or so of new and old levels for enjoyment and value. I must admit that I was motivated to play those levels just for complete enjoyment and entertainment.

Gameplay is usual and peculiar in some ways. When you unlock the 7th or 8th level in campaign mode, the specialist fighters don't have any new, powerful weapons, like in Ghost Recon (orig)--not even that; you don't even have the possibility of seeing some of the state-of-the-art weaponry of these specialists.....Oh, and you don't unlock any specialists in quick mission mode, which, I think, decreased the value of the game. The artificial intelligence is not better, absolutely not. They get stuck sometimes in hallways, and worst of all, your partner, sometimes, doesn't follow you...and if you need back up, you must go back and give him the message for him to follow you.

Sound is worse. Redstorm seems like they got the music and some of the sounds off of Kazaa--or worse quality type audio; it's a little fuzzy. I thought they could have improved a lot on that. Mediocre, but suprisingly, it's not better.

Well, that sums it up. A game that has only new levels. But don't be uninterested, because this game does have some really interesting levels, involving villages at the pits of some small mountains, or a dark atmospheric level, willing to complete the mission in utter black darkness, moon down. The gameplay will captivate your interest, but not entirely. But honestly, you'll like Ghost Recon (the original) after playing this game; it's an improvement over Desert Seige, which may put DS into the dust.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's a MUST BUY expansion game for Ghost Recon, January 8, 2003
This review is from: Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Mission Pack: Desert Siege (CD-ROM)
I always love Tom Clancy games, like Rogue Spear and Ghost Recon. I bought The Desert Siege expansion pack from Amazon.com, and it is the most challenging team shooter game.

Desert Siege is not for a beginner Ghost Recon Player, since the computer enemies has very good artificial intelligence. They can hide and they can run away from you! It can cause a real havoc when you have to deal with an enemy sniper until you can figure it out where he hides.

The first time you play it, you may get frustrated a little bit because the enemies are harder! but after a while, you will figure their behaviors out.

Must play game of the year!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Game but need proper hardware, May 10, 2002
By
This review is from: Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Mission Pack: Desert Siege (CD-ROM)
I've seen many complaints about games not working on their system, whether it is a problem with the video card, not enough memory, or your CPU is just not fast enough. I've played many games, RTCW, MOHAA, Ghost Recon, Desert Siege, and Max Payne. I was able to turn on the highest video settings without experincing problems. Before you buy the game check the requirements! If your computer meets them or barely makes them don't buy the game, you should always beet the recommended. When you actually have the right pc the games are actually fun.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Add-on, April 7, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Mission Pack: Desert Siege (CD-ROM)
This is a good addition to a great game. The only problem I have with it is that it is too short, but it is about right for the money. Not revolutionary, but I would predict that it will quickly become almost necessary for multiplayer.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great missions but it ends too soon!, April 2, 2002
This review is from: Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Mission Pack: Desert Siege (CD-ROM)
Desert Siege is the new modification for Ghost Recon. Desert Siege includes 8 new missions, several new weapons, 5 new multiplayer maps, and 2 new modes of play: Siege and Domination. While the single player missions are intense, it's the multiplayer that's really outstanding. The muliplayer maps tend
to be medium to small with lots of elevation changes and intricate design (See Canyon). In my opinion, the mission maps are better suited for multiplayer as they offer a better chance for medium to long range engagements. Siege mode was a great addition. The goal of Siege is to overtake or defend a specific location on the map. The fighting is fast and fierce since the fortified position is clearly marked on the map, thereby eliminating the need to hunt and scan for enemies. The only reason I give this game 4 stars instead of 5 is due to the brevity of the single player mode. The addicting design of the maps, coupled with interesting mission objectives, and enemy rich environment leave you crying for more when the missions suddenly halt. I was able to finish all 8 missions in just under a few days of intermittent play. I still highly recommend this add-on, not only for the brief but exciting single player experience but also for the great new multiplayer experiences to follow.

5.0 out of 5 stars Shane's rating for Ghost Recon, February 9, 2004
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Mission Pack: Desert Siege (CD-ROM)
If you love the First Ghost Recon game you will for surely love this game. In the game the Green Berets (Marines), go settle a 60 year old conflict between Ethiopia and Eritrea. It includes multiplayer teams, 8 missions, and play online mode. My dad bought it for himself a couple of years ago and wouldn't let me play it so when he was gone I would always sneak it and play it. It may be rated mature, but it doesn't have much blood or gore, but it has a lot of violence. It is so real it will make you fill like your in Africa along with the Berets. In most war games you get to play with one soldier, well in this one you get a team of Berets (6 soldiers) to do missions. If you like this game you should also check out Ghost Recon Island thunder, and Rogue Spear. This is the best PC game of the century!
