5.0 out of 5 stars On the latest hardware, works great
I read several of the reviews that were here, but I'm a big fan of the Splinter Cell line and wanted to try it anyway.

I found that it worked fine. Admittedly, I have a very recent MacBook Pro, with the AMD Radeon HD 6770M 1024 MB. On this machine I haven't had any trouble with frame rates or lag. Other than an occasional problem where the internet...

1.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't work in Lion
I cannot get past the initial controls tutorial. It keeps telling me to look up but my mouse has absolutely no affect.

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible Lag and Frame Rate, September 18, 2011

I cannot recommend this game for the Mac. I met and in some cases exceeded the system requirements needed to play this game and was confronted with atrocious mouse lag and a frame rate of less than 5 frames per second, rendering gameplay impossible. Internet research shows that the general opinion is that the Mac port is extremely sub-standard. May be playable if you have much higher specs on your Mac than is recommended. A waste of $20. Bought it for $20 for the Xbox and borrowed a friend's Xbox360 to play it on and it's a great aggressive stealth action game. Do your research and make sure your Mac can perform this game properly before purchasing.

I found that it worked fine. Admittedly, I have a very recent MacBook Pro, with the AMD Radeon HD 6770M 1024 MB. On this machine I haven't had any trouble with frame rates or lag. Other than an occasional problem where the internet connectivity would kick out (which restarting fixed) I didn't experience any problems. And, I ran the entire thing on the 32" Thunderbolt display.

I love these titles, and this one is a great (if short) addition to the line. The computer generated characters are much more realistic, and more challenging. Overall, a great addition to the line.

1.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't Work (read below)!, September 8, 2011

The game is AMAZING. I played it at my friends house, and loved it. Unfortunately, the Mac version SUCKS. It doesn't work (for me at least). The Ubisoft Game launcher doesn't connect to the internet. Furthermore, after one and a half weeks spent email/calling the Ubisoft support, nothing has improved. I have opened more ports on my router than I knew existed, and still nothing! Worse yet, it has actually caused Assassins Creed Brotherhood to STOP working (although the multiplayer already didn't work b/c of that Ubisoft game launcher).
In Summary, the game is great. The seller is also amazing (the download is fast AND easy). Even the Ubisoft support is decent (the people are VERY nice, but the Mac support is marginal at best). They responded quickly and have continued to supply suggestions. But despite all of this, the game doesn't work, and has stopped a different one from working. Get it, but expect to be on the phone with Amazon organizing a refund.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works fine on Mac, November 15, 2011
This review is from: Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Conviction [Mac Download] (Software Download)
Phew, just downloaded this through Gamersgate and what a relief! After playing the trial version on OnLive I really wanted this game but saw that on Mac it was unstable or entirely non-functioning, but I took the risk, that's how much I wanted this. For 20$ but a very jumpy download manager it runs very nice on my MacBook Pro 2GHz i7 quad-core with 4GB of RAM running OS X Lion!!! Yes! Anyway, am off to play it now, enjoy y'all...

1.0 out of 5 stars A great game with really annoying always on connection DRM, August 18, 2011
This review is from: Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Conviction [Mac Download] (Software Download)
Good:

The level designs are pretty great, and I really love the target and auto-kill skill. Once you have points to use it, all you have to is it mark up to 4 enemies, and let Sam do all the killing within 2-3 seconds.

I like the earning points for doing stuff, so that you can upgrade your guns - feature.

The storyline is a lot better, even though it is still ridiculous and not believable.

I also like the new way that mission objectives are displayed.

Bad:

DRM: DO NOT BUY the the Mac or PC version regardless of any news of Ubisoft toning the DRM down a notch; it's not true. I got this game on Steam, but it uses Ubisoft's flavor of DRM which is what you'll get if you buy it from Amazon. Whenever I couldn't connect to Ubisoft's server for whatever reason, it would just stop my single player game until it was able to hit Ubisoft's server again. Think about this. If you have a spotty internet connection this will be horrible, or better yet what will happen when Ubisoft shuts down their servers on a weekend or for good? This happened multiple times in the early levels and it is really annoying when you knew that you paid to just experience this horrible security feature that does nothing to stop the pirates. I'm pretty sure you can find a pirate version easily. All this garbage inconveniences Ubisoft's paying customers forever, making them more inclined to pirate. NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM UBISOFT. If you really have to have it, but it on a console instead. They will work fine without the always on internet DRM.

Lion compatibility: I got it working in Lion, but it wasn't easy and I think a lot of it was luck.

I could not find anyone online for multiplayer games, especially for the co-op portion of the game.

Summary:

This is the best Splinter Cell in my book... ruined by Ubisoft DRM. I could be wrong but I don't think 360 or PS3 owners are affected by this, so if you have to get it just buy it on a console instead.
