2.0 out of 5 stars Okay - I guess, December 22, 2009

I ordered this as a Christmas present for my Russian girlfriend and was pleased with the quality of the painting of the egg itself. The figurine was a little clunky looking and really did not impress, although it was ok... The music was tinny and sounded cheap.

The brochure with the product goes to great pains to mention Russia this and Russia that in an attempt to implicitly suggest that the egg was made in the Russia town of Palekh without actually "saying" that it was. The Styrofoam packing says "Made in China" bigger than day - so which one is it? Was the egg made in Russia and the packaging in China? I doubt it - probably both were made in China. I really detest this type of misleading advertising and documentation - it really feels like I have been cheated. Oh, the ballerina does NOT twirl with the music - just so you know.

All in all the egg is okay - but not at the advertised price. This should be a product you pay no more than 10 dollars for - not almost 50.

1.0 out of 5 stars Tacky, Total Disappointment, February 2, 2011
This review is from: Clara And The Nutcracker Musical Egg by The Bradford Exchange
Tacky, Total Disappointment: I ordered this for my 11-year old daughter after she saw it in the Hammacher Schlemmer catalogue; out of all of her "Christmas wish list" items, this was the one thing she was the most excited about (even over her new iPod Touch!). It was on backorder and finally received Monday 1/31/11. At first we thought it was broken because it would not open after winding and playing the music (not very musically, I might add). I pried it open it to find that not only does it not open mechanically, the Clara figurine is just a magnet that sits in place and does not spin around to the music. My daughter was extremely disappointed, and I have already returned it (AND I had to pay $10.95 for the return). Using the phrase "musical movement" in the description is misleading and this is a lame and tacky product that Amazon and Hammacher Schlemmer should be embarrassed to include in their offerings.

1.0 out of 5 stars Cheap!, December 2, 2010

Cheap describes it! Poorly made (the bottom was already out when I opened the box), and not looking any better either. Don't waste your money! You'll be better off buying a snow globe from a discount store, which is what I wish I have done.
