Gatemouth Brown Blues!, December 5, 2007
Gatemouth Brown is truely one of the top bluesman in my opinion. This DVD was recorded at the Maple Leaf Club in New Orleans and it features Gatemouth and a full horn ensemble with keyboards and a great bass player. The DVD mixes New Orleans style blues with Gatemouth's jazzy Texas T-Bone style blues. The result is an excellent and rare recording of the Gate Man in blues action. Note* I believe this is the identical concert DVD called "In New Orleans" also offered on Amazon. That too was recorded at the same venue in the same year(?. 50 min.
Tracks:
I feel Alright
I Wonder
Gate Walks to Board
Sunrise Cajun Style
Song for Rene
Six Feet Below
Frosty
One More Mile
Pressure Cooker
Catfish
Up Jumped the Devil

Great Electric Guitar & Fiddle, "Louisiana/Texas Blues" From the Late/Great, Legendary, Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown!!!, November 7, 2010
This is certainly, a great blues concert by "Gatemouth", and his great, backing band, in a small, close-up, intimate, venue, the "Maple Leaf", in New Orleans, Louisiana. This was filmed on February 4, 1984. "Gatemouth" has a unique, kind of blues. He was born in Louisiana, in "Cajun Country", and moved just across the border to Texas, where he was raised. He drifted back and forth from Texas to Louisiana, and vice versa. On the DVD package back, he describes his sound as "Texas blues rubbed shoulders with New Orleans R & B, and ...South Louisiana Cajuns, intermingled, with the hard riffing horns of the Lone Star State." Also, as "Gatemouth" states, "other ingredients were added to his musical gumbo...including bluegrass & string band styles...to mainstream country".
Also, "Gatemouth" is known for using a capo, clamped across the neck of his Gibson, Firebird Electric, Guitar. His disciple, the late/great Texas Bluesman Albert Collins, also used a capo, on his Fender stratocaster. "Gatemouth" not only uses his guitar to play the blues, but he also uses a fiddle.
This is a great electric blues concert, that any blues fan should certainly enjoy. Thanks!!!

This review is from: The Clarence Gatemouth Brown: The Blues of Clarence Gatemouth Brown (DVD)
Gatemouth Brown was one of the greatest guitar players in the past 50 years. A true original, he defied being placed into a category. Part cajun, part country, part blues.... he was all of that and more. He will be sorely missed.
