Alcione
"Claridade: Uma Homenagem A Clara Nunes"
(Globo Records, 1999)
----------------------------------------------------
"Pagode" samba star Alcione, one of the brightest lights of the 1970s and early 1980s, pays homage to singer Clara Nunes, who was the undisputed queen of the genre. The songs are all drawn from Clara's repertoire, sometimes given a modern spin, such as in the opening track, "Mineira/Morena de Angola," which is given a salsa-esque feel, almost as if Celia Cruz were doing a samba set. If you like this record, you should *definitely* check out the classic original recordings by Clara Nunes.
Songs include:
1. Mineira/Morena de Angola
2. Ê Baiana
3. Sem Companhia
4. Juízo Final Listen
5. Canto das Três Raças
6. Conto de Areia
7. Portela Na Avenida
8. Flor da Pele
9. Novo Alvorecer
10. O Mar Serenou
11. Feira de Mangaio
12. Menino Deus
13. Tristeza Pé No Chão
14. As Forças da Natureza/Mineira

vibrant, joyful, excellent Clara Nunes tribute album, February 4, 2000
By A Customer
I just got this from Amazon.com and I love it. Alcione's voice (if you haven't heard her) is lower, huskier than Clara Nunes'... she sounds like a Brazilian version of Celia Cruz if you know latin music. There are some great, lively samba covers here... sweet ballads too... excellent band and solid production. Gosto muito! (i like it a lot)
