5.0 out of 5 stars Superb Playing by the Best.
Being a clarinetist myself I am extremely particular about who I listen to. Sabine Meyer is a fabulous player with that real "German School" sound almost every clarinet player strives for. Her techinique is flawless as is her interpretation of the music. I'm burned out on hearing hack renditions of Mozart but this, I'm happy to say, I enjoy listening...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not the best!
As a long time clarinet player I have 4 recordings of the Mozart Clarinet Concerto.
Sabine is really good, technique out the kazoo but for me it's a bit much. It's as if she's competing with all the other guys who have played and recorded this lovely solo and while I could never have equalled her performance, I far prefer a much older recording by Robert Marcellus...

Being a clarinetist myself I am extremely particular about who I listen to. Sabine Meyer is a fabulous player with that real "German School" sound almost every clarinet player strives for. Her techinique is flawless as is her interpretation of the music. I'm burned out on hearing hack renditions of Mozart but this, I'm happy to say, I enjoy listening to...partly due to the playing of it on the instrument intended the Bassett Clarinet. Her Weber is operatic and dramatic..I hang on every note she plays. The Stamitz which I happen to be working on right now is absolutely the way a piece from that era should sound...light, delicate, and lively even in the adagio. Then to top it off the recording of the "Gran Partida" which is brilliantly played by her ensemble. This recording is what every clarinettist dreams..she is what every clarinetist wants to be. A highly recommended recording, but don't stop at this one buy all of her stuff including ensemble work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sabine Meyer, January 5, 2007
This review is from: Clarinet Connection (Audio CD)
Just heard Sabine Meyer's Clarinet Concerto No. 10 on FM classical station on my car radio a few minutes ago. What a lift to my soul and spirit on a midnight drive ! I played clarinet 35 yrs ago, thru 1st year of college concert band, when my engineering studies then left me with little time for the arts. I am far from an expert, but listening to this...... made me want to get my clarinet out of its old case, made me want to start playing and making music again. What a superb talent, what beautiful tone and what a wonderful job on all ranges and on both slow and fast passages. Summing...... this is very very well done ! I have arrived here immediately upon having garaged my car, to immediately order the CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars A joyful helping of Mozart's clarinet, April 11, 2000
This review is from: Clarinet Connection (Audio CD)
I listened to this disk while driving through heavy traffic on the way to work. It was one of the best "concerts" I've ever attended. I was so impressed by the nuances of the clarinet player, I am looking up the CD here so I can buy it.

His recording isn't so much about speed and flash, but it demonstrates a love of the piece - gentle, flowing and passionate. In his performance, less is more.
You can actually get teary eyed in the slow movement.
