This is an excellent CD. It contains a variety of styles, ranging from serious to more fun and jazzy, and all pieces are highly enjoyable.
There are many clarinet ensemble CDs out there that contain mostly transcriptions/arrangements, such as Clarinet Evergreens from Naxos. Those CDs are great, but I think this CD has an added edge in that it is equally satisfying, and contains some excellent pieces from the clarinet ensemble repertoire, written specifically for clarinet ensemble. My personal favorite pieces from this disc are Tomasi's Trios Divertissments & Fernandez's (arr) Muskrat Sousa, though all the pieces are great. If you like the clarinet or just good music, you should defintely pick up this CD. You won't regret it. |
