The radio stopped working in one year and this was in a house boat.

I installed it myself, which took some wires, splicers, and a little bit of electrical know-how.

Purchased this product to replace a Sony head that didn't have be base sound I was looking for and also to get the IPOD Touch connection. Unit sounds great, easy to operate and the remote works ok for line of sight use. The reason I gave it a 4 is that I wish the Ipod hook up was in the front instead of the back of the unit. I ended up running another USB cable from the back to a front panel I had to cut and mount. I also attempted to buy the adapter for XM and install on this, but, gave up when the programming didn't work etc. Took the XM box stuff back and purchased a Serius box, which plugged straight in and works great.

I had this installed by a professional audio company. They did a good job on their end and put the unit in a weatherproof cabinet within a storage cabinet on the boat.

Unfortunately the unit itself did not hold up. It now blows fuses as soon as I put a new one in. There is no visible short and all wires are protected. It lasted barely more than one year.

It did sound good for that year.

I like clarion products,

All my car DVD's are from clarion, and they sound and look good!

But I recently purchased this item for my boat,
I hate to bring the cd boxes and I like to use
the ipod to listen to various genres of sounds.

The only problem is, every Ipod I connect on the unit
it does not read the ipod functions....

None of them, including the iphone.

And the clarion support is terrible,
you can't leave questions on the website, and only the dealer
can answer the questions, some of them told me to buy ccipod cable
that I would have no more trouble..

I did, and still am waiting for the functions to be read
by the unit..

Didn't work for me....

I did a lot of comparison shopping before I decided on the head unit for my boat. It came down to the Clarion M309 or the same level Alpine head unit. Both had all the features that I wanted including XM ready and wired remotes for controlling the head unit from different parts of the boat. I chose the Clarion for it's value and the quality of the remotes, and Clarion did not let me down. The installation guide could have been a bit more detailed, but I think Clarion expect only Pro installers will be handling their head units. I performed the whole install myself (first stereo install ever) paring the M309 with two wired remotes, a USB plug extension, 2 1000watt Pile Marine Amps, 5 pair of 6.5 in speakers and 2 10in subs. The system rocks my boat! If you are a novice and you plan to install yourself - I recommend that you have a laptop or tablet handy and google any and all terms that the clarion guide uses. Read install blogs and make sure you understand basic electricity principals. The manuals are not written for novice installers.

I purchased this unit for use in my boat. I installed it myself, which took some wires, splicers, and a little bit of electrical know-how.

The sound quality of the unit is great. No complaints.

My one complaint is that the user interface is ridiculously difficult to learn. There are a number of buttons with acronyms that seem to have no connection to what they actually do. Also, moving through folders on your ipod is very cumbersome and also needlessly complicated. There are easier stereos to use, I am sure.

Overall, good functioning product, but there is a steep learning curve.

The sound quality is fine for the four six inch speakers I use. I do not have an amplifier hooked up. It comes with a remote that works well. You can also purchase the remote head unit for it that is great, except that you can't dim the bright remote head, it's an issue while night boating. It does not have an input in the front for USB, it has a 3' cord out of the back. I just ran it behind my microwave on the boat and used Velcro to hold the plug up on the bulkhead. Nothing really special about this unit, works fine for the price. Needs a front USB port, that's my only dislike.
