We bought this set of phones for my mother in law, and she's very pleased with them.

Like many older people, her hearing is steadily deteriorating. These phones amplify and clarify incoming calls, and for her, they work perfectly. She can now hear the phone ringing, and she has no trouble understanding what callers are saying. They're worth every penny for her.

It's important to understand that hearing loss is very highly individualized. The perfect phone for one person may not work at all for another person. These phones offer a great deal of adjustment for the volume and tone of incoming calls. They also allow the volume of the ring tone to be adjusted, and they will even announce the incoming caller's Caller ID information. I think all of this means that a lot of people will be able to benefit from these phones.

Bottom line: They work perfectly for my mother in law, and they probably can be adjusted so as to work for many hard-of-hearing people. There's no such thing as a universally perfect phone for those who need help with hearing, but these come close. I recommend them most highly.

I bought this product as a christmas gift for my Grandmother this year and it was defective. There was a static sound that was so loud that she couldn't hear the coversation she was having which completly defeats the purpose of the phone. The other problem with the product is that this is NOT SOLD BY AMAZON. The company who sells the product is Antonline and they do not follow Amazons return policys. When I bought the product I assumed that it would fall under Amazons extended return policies for the holiday season but Ant will not honnor that and now we are stuck with a bad product. DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE OR ANY PRODUCT FROM ANTONLINE.

That's the bottom line really. My dad loves this phone. He keeps saying that. He gets a kick out of the fact it 'talks'. All these features are talking features. It speaks numbers and so forth. Now he hasn't said much about the 'boost' and I think it confuses him too. But that's why I bought it. Because he can't hear very well. He's 90 and his hearing is weak. We have to shout at him. But he seems okay on the phone. So I think it works well. And he seems to call more. So the net effect is positive. Can't go wrong here really. Oh, and he says it tells him the batteries are low. It speaks that to him. He gets a chuckle out of that. "The batteries are low" or something like that. Made him laugh. You know old people are like children reborn. They laugh at everything.

The phone has great features for older people that have trouble seeing and hearing. However, the sound clarity was not that good for either the caller or the one receiving the call. Words kept having to be repeated since the sound seems to fade in and out.

The phones worked as advertised for hearing compatable. 97 year old Mom can now hear on phone and on speaker phone. Rings loud and can be set for best hearing frequency. Phones are costly. Adjusting the boost level is a bit tricky and is easy to hit by mistake. Overall a success.

Perosnal: Ham radio operator for 57 years Extra Class license - 1st Class Radiotelephone Radio Telephone License. Hearing impairment: severe. Unable to use any telephone in the house but one. Unable to hear some people on this phone because of the frequency range of their voices.

Researched amplified cordless telephones for several days. Bought the Clarity XLC3.4. I've spent the past few days learning the features and failures. Bottom Line: Satisfies my needs, which is a telephone that provides enough amplification to hear and also has a feature to change voice frequencies. (Usually called a TONE control.)

So far the XLC3.4 satisfies these needs. It has enough amplification to actually hurt if you inadvertently have the volume up too high with the BOOST feature activated! The phone has several good features which include 2 ranges of volume, It also has the typical features like a phone book, mute button, FLASH (which allows you to switch "lines" when another call comes in while you are talking,) speakerphone and redial. One main feature in addition to the amplification is the TONE button. I provides 4 different frequency enhancement options to deal with voices that have mostly low frequencies or voices that are high pitched, like young girls or some women. While it is somewhat awkward to change these 4 levels with the TONE button while using the phone it can be done with a little patience from the person you're talking to.

Additional features include an easy to follow MENU, ringer silence, voice assist which announces each number you push and then reads back the number you called. This can be turned off if you find it a distraction. It has large lighted buttons, bright black on white screen which shows what is going on with the telephone. Another feature is a headphone jack which I've never seen on a phone before..

The manual is for the most part easy to understand with straightforward directions with a minimum of sub-menus. Some feature directions are obscure which in my case required a call to Clarity tech service. The phone has a button, when pushed dials Clarity tech service which is a feature that I have never seen in my electronics career and which is very reassuring that Clarity is interested in making sure you're able to use your phone to your satisfaction and or resolve any problems. The service tech I spoke with was very knowledgeable and courteous.

Things I don't like about the phone is the already mentioned obscure directions. For example, the directions indicate the volume level goes from 0-16. The BOOST button kicks in another level of amplification but the manual doesn't explain clearly that the volume control numbers then start at 16 and goes to 50.

The biggest thing I don't like about the phone is the phone book 50 entry limit. My phone contacts far exceed 50 and I found it necessary to do some judicious culling!

The phone has belt loop that simply will not go over my belt so that feature is worthless. Clarity does sell a neck loop if you wish to hang the phone around your neck like a bell.

All in all I am presently satisfied with this phone and do recommend it. The reason I gave it a 4-star rating is because of the phone book 50 entry limit and the belt clip which prevents me from carrying the phone around the house which I need to do.

This item was a gift for a family member who is hard of hearing. The phones work perfectly and they can hear and be heard. They are easy to install and use. I recommend these for anyone who has a hard time hearing on regular phones. Very good value.

Not only do these phones do everything they say they do (and more) you can get help over the phone if you can't figure something out. The phones are terrific and so are the people at Clarity.

I am hard of hearing and wear a hearing aid. I purchased this phone hoping it would be louder and clearer. I still have not figured out how this thing works. When the phone rings (horrible ring tone), I pick up the phone and hit talk. Sometimes it works and sometimes it turns off. Why couldn't there be just a louder phone and not all of the so called ring tones, which are all the same. I am still working on figuring it out.

I feel like I spent all this money for nothing.
