This review is from: Old-Time Country Music (Audio CD)
I remember years ago being knocked out hearing Vassar Clements in the Will the Circle Be Unbroken album.
I said he must be the greatest fiddler living. A guy I worked with who was really into blugrass and old time mountain music asked me to compare Clements with Kenny Baker. I admitted Baker was better. He then had me compare Baker with Howdy Forrester. Well, Forrester was better. Then he said to compare Forrester with Clark Kessinger. WOW! Kessinger was unbelievable! He said, " Do you still believe Vassar Clements is the greatest living fiddler?" Kessinger was a star in the late 20s but retired from the spotlight when his brother Ira died. He then played barn dances in West Virginia for the next 40 some years until re-discovered in the 70s. If you like the fiddle, check Clark out. He was the greatest. |
