Editorial Reviews

Review

“Clark loves everything about his life at Theodore Roosterfish Elementary, but his supersize enthusiasm is hard for the other fish to handle... The full-color artwork in a cartoon style is pleasant and fun.” (School Library Journal)

From the Back Cover

Clark is a shark with zing, bang, and boom. Clark zooms into school, crashes through the classroom, and is rowdy at recess. Clark loves life—but when his enthusiasm is too much for his friends, Clark's teacher, Mrs. Inkydink, helps him figure out a way to tone it down.

Clark the Shark celebrates boisterous enthusiasm—and knowing when it's time for indoor voices!

My grandson loves sharks & this was the perfect book for a toddler just starting pre-school.

I could see this book being great for those kids who get in trouble for being "active" in preschool and kindergarten.

He is a sweet shark with good intentions but all over the place when it comes to being focused on learning.

If you are an educator, this is a really helpful resource to teach self-control, thinking about how your behavior impacts others, and using self-talk to keep yourself focused. Usually after the first week of school, the behavior honeymoon is over. That's when you need to reach into your book basket and grab Clark the Shark. He is a sweet shark with good intentions but all over the place when it comes to being focused on learning. We need creative approaches when it comes to challenging kids. The students who are struggling with paying attention and being disruptive need empathetic strategies. I plan on rolling out a cute little lesson plan using a shark puppet - I have a feeling I will be referring to Clark MANY TIMES throughout the year. This is a winner folks.

Both the book and the matching stuffed animal are cute! I look forward to reading Clark the Shark Dares to Share next year. Clark is quite the boy child, full of energy and excitement for school, but he's got a lot to learn. There is a time and a place and Clark has to work on his exuberance. Then a new kid comes to school and Clark can use his new knowledge to share wisdom to grow on.

Thanks to HC.

My son loves sharks and insisted on checking this book out from our library. I could see this book being great for those kids who get in trouble for being "active" in preschool and kindergarten. So often, that behavior is labelled "bad" or "troublesome," which is kind of sad for kids so young... So what I like about this book is how it just says that Clark "loves life" and is excited/enthusiastic, and the teacher and Clark himself figure out how he can act appropriately, while still keeping that enthusiasm (at home and on the playground). I think that's a great message.

A very cute Book to share with my son. We both enjoyed it. It was recommended by a school counselor.
