"Walter Clark's invaluable five-volume history of North Carolina Confederate units always has been among the most important reference sets about the Civil War. Charles Davis's exhaustive index will make Clark's classic work even more useful. It is gratifying to see this kind of thorough work reach publication, where it will be tremendously helpful to so many people." Robert K. Krick, author of The Smoothbore Valley That Doomed the Confederacy and Stonewall Jackson at Cedar Mountain This wonderful reference tool for historians, students, and researchers provides information on nearly every person, place, and event related to the North Carolina soldiers and sailors involved in the War Between the States. Thought of as the "missing chapter" to Clark's Regiments, this extended index identifies individuals by name, rank, and company, battalion, or regiment. The battles are given by date, and the vessels are recognized both by their side in the conflict and by their duties. The index can also be used as a cross reference for those interested in Confederate history and, more specifically, by anyone seeking knowledge about North Carolina's contribution to the Confederate war effort.
