The fit runs very true-- my normal boot size 9 fits perfectly, and tho they're not considered 'wide', they still accomodate a painful Tailor's bunion on one foot, and are still very comfortable. I have a 15" calf, and the fit is perfect with either tights or skinny jeans.
I love the oiled leather, too, which some describe as 'stiff- I describe it as good quality, durable, warm (I'm in the upper-midwest), and helps the boot hold its shape since I was not in the market for a slouch boot. The taupe shade is very neutral and versatile, too-- depending on what's worn with it, it can pass for either a light brown, or warm gray. The sole is thick and treaded enough for walking on snow, too, yet blends with the boot enough so as not to be *too* obviously practical. ;)
Very happy I bought these!
I've been comparing these to the Timberland Lexiss boots which are quite similar. The boots differ only in decoration, shaft height and width and very slightly in foot width. The shaft height of the Timberlands is about an inch shorter than the Clarks and the Timberlands fit my calves perfectly. The foot is very slightly wider. The beautiful quality leather is the same on both the Clarks and Timberlands. The heel height and material are very similar. They are also very comfortable and easy to walk in. Unfortunately, I am returning the Timberlands too because the thick socks I need for the boots to fit will make them too hot for So. Cal. I'm hoping to find some narrower boots.
*Construction: The material is a thick, quality leather that will take on "character" (a.k.a. wear) and just look better. It is matte but not sueded. The lining is high-quality, soft and smooth. There are two sections of hidden goring - one under the buckle and another near the zipper. The sole provides comfort and traction. I think these are a great value for the price based on quality.
*Fit: This boot is about an inch taller than other boots I own (which I prefer, as I am 5'9" and taller boot hit closer to the knee). The opening IS wider than other boots I've tried. However...my specific flavor of "athletic" calves are thick throughout, so the middle of the boot shaft was almost impossible to zip. If you have top-heavy calves, I think you will benefit from the extra space in the opening, but mind the tapering of the shaft if you are thicker from knee to ankle and not just at the top of your calf muscle. Also, the footbed runs somewhat narrow. I have flat, but not wide, feet, and I was hanging a bit over the side). The material is stiff around ankle and heel, and I think this requires some breaking in (um, and smaller calves...d'oh!). I wear a 9.5 boot and a 10 shoe. I would probably recommend you try your shoe size first - the extra space may reduce the feeling of narrowness.
I'm extremely sad these boots don't fit.
Bottom line, beautiful, high-quality boot. The fit will not be for everyone, but if you have average or narrow feet and average or wide-on-top calves, you should try them!
My only complaint is that my calves are 14" and they are HUGE around them. They looked so clunky, almost like rain boots. I was considering returning them but since I liked everything else about them I decided to take a chance and have them altered. I went to a shoe repair shop and for $65 I had the calves taken in 1.5". They look great now! Happy I decided to keep them.
If you live in LA and need a good repair shop, go to Armando's Shoes & Repair in Westwood. He did a great job and now my boots are perfect.

I bought these for my girlfriend to wear with jeans on the town, or to ride on the back of the motorcycle. She loves them. Moderate heel, rubberized sole, comfortable insole.Published 13 months ago by David
My new favorite pair of boots! They look amazing and are super comfy. Also feel really durable. I'm hoping that over time they'll soften up just a little. I couldn't be happier!Published 14 months ago by JESSICA L. SATLER
I like this pair of boots, because its shape and quality are very satisfying. FYI, the leather is not that glossy kind, it's like frosted. But I like them!Published 16 months ago by Sally
