4.0 out of 5 stars I may be the first to review the ALBUM!
I purchased the LP when the film was first released. While the music is not as stirring as Bernard Herrmann's work on the three earlier Ray Harryhausen works ("7th Voyage of Sinbad", "Mysterious Island", "Jason and the Argonauts"), Rosenthal's music is adequate for the mythological the story of Perseus and his rescue of a doomed princess...

4.0 out of 5 stars I may be the first to review the ALBUM!, July 2, 2003
This review is from: Clash of the Titans (Audio CD)
I purchased the LP when the film was first released. While the music is not as stirring as Bernard Herrmann's work on the three earlier Ray Harryhausen works ("7th Voyage of Sinbad", "Mysterious Island", "Jason and the Argonauts"), Rosenthal's music is adequate for the mythological the story of Perseus and his rescue of a doomed princess.

The best cut is the beautiful "The Lovers", a melody close in structure to more familiar themes by Williams in the Star Wars trilogy.

An added bonus is the final cut, featuring Lawrence Oliver's voiceover. To hear one of the greats of film and stage is to be royally blessed.

The only complaint is the album's brevity (37:40), but it was made when soundtrack albums were limited to a select audience and not as popular as the genre has today become. Also, a soundtrack album's success is based on the popularity of the movie.

And "Clash of the Titans" was a marginal success for MGM. Since that time however, the movie has gained somewhat "cult status" which might spur interest in the score.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful movie music!, November 1, 2001

This review is from: Clash of the Titans (Audio CD)
The Clash of the Titans music is all about the heroic expoilts of the central character Perseus. It's basically hero theme music similar to Superman, the Movie. Like the music in Superman, the orchestra takes us to the utmost of heights, especially in track 6, Pegasus, the scene in which Perseus takes his first ride on the mythical winged horse. The score also features a beautiful love theme for Andromeda (a la Lois Lane) and a bright, noble, yet, comic theme for Bubo the Owl. The Heroic main theme recurs frequently through the score to punctuate Perseus daring exploits. The music for the villans was well writen, nothing spectacular, but well done for the movie. I highly reccommend this CD.

I had no idea that this soundtrack was available on CD. Once I did, I searched everywhere and alas, found one being sold independently on Amazon.com I have always enjoyed listening to the music while viewing this movie. As with most movies, the music is a big part of the films success. I cannot recall if Clash of the Titans was viewed as a movie of such proportions however, the music ranks right up there with the success of Star Wars, Superman, ET, etc. and will give the listener a wonderful listening experience.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Titan Among Soundtracks!, January 25, 2000
This review is from: Clash of the Titans (Audio CD)
I've collected soundtracks for years, and this was one I'd always wanted;it did not disappoint! With its memorable melodies, particularly Andromeda's theme, and its clashing (excuse the pun) Hermannesque crescendos, this soundtrack is a rich addition to the collection! Laurence Olivier's ending voice-over was a nice touch... With great analog sound, the CD runs about 40 minutes, short but quite typical of a length for soundtracks of the 1980's.

5.0 out of 5 stars great bass and thriving melodies, August 11, 1998

This was a soundtrack that I had wanted for quite some time, and I am now pleased to hear it in glorious stereo. Most of the tracks contain thriving music full of brassy horns and delicate strings. I particularily liked the constellation-end title which features a nice voice over from Laurence Olivier. Although this cd is on the short side, it is packed with wondeful music all around. This music style brings ideas of Hermann's fantasy music, which ironically, was also used for Ray Harryhausen's films. Try this for a truly fantastic experince.

5.0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC!!!, February 22, 2006
This review is from: Clash of the Titans (Audio CD)
This is one of the best soundtracks ever written for film. Anyone who loves film scores should have this one in thier collection. It's too bad Laurence Rosenthol hasn't written more scores because he is definately up there with some of the best film composers(Jerry Goldsmith,Bernard Herrman,John Williams,Maurice Jarre & Miklos Rosza). If you ever get a chance to find a copy (they are rare and out of print)then snatch this one up! Like I did! You won't be disappointed,it's a gem!

Searching for this soundtrack was a grand task. When I finally got it, I was instantly pleased and enthralled. This soundtrack has some great heroic and adventurous orchestrations. Great themes for Pegasus, Perseus and even bobo the owl. When listening to it, you feel you're in the movie. Classic soundtrack!!

5.0 out of 5 stars THE ULTIMATE "CLASH" SOUNDTRACK, May 6, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Clash of the Titans (Audio CD)
As a life-long admirer of the films of special effects legend RAY HARRYHAUSEN, I am also very interested in the music that accompanies his movies. Laurence Rosenthal produced some great work for Ray's last picture, "CLASH OF THE TITANS". Far better than the version that contained fewer tracks, this 2-CD edition has ALL the very best music from the film. In my opinion, those tracks having a more subtle mood are every bit as good as those for the high action sequences. This is a must have for all fans of RAY HARRYHAUSEN'S movies and fantasy films in general. It is worth every nickle. I would have paid more for it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Let this soundtrack take your mind into a dream like fantasy, March 14, 2002

Words can describe it as: Mystical, Mythotical, Spiritual, Poetic, Unique. You get the idea. This is done by the London Symphony Orchetra very well and the recording quality suprised me. Although there are 3 songs missing on this particular album, which of course takes away from the whole feeling of the soundtrack. Hopefully one day Amazon will get their hands on the full 17 track CD. If you can't find the full one, however, I would definately buy this one!
