Editorial Reviews

The House Party pals make sure the party isn't over in a fresh comedy that asks: "What happens when the school records of a brainiac dweeb (Kid, the guy with the high-rise 'do) and a got-attitude street tough (hip-hop style master Play) get accidentally switched?"

Meshach Taylor (Designing Women), Karyn Parsons (Fresh Prince of Bel-Air), Alysia Rogers (Boyz N the Hood), Doug E. Doug (Hangin' with the Homeboys) and guest-stars Rhea Perlman (Cheers) and MTV maniac Pauly Shore (Encino Man) round out the class cast. And the def music is a class tune-up too.

This product is manufactured on demand using DVD-R recordable media. Amazon.com's standard return policy will apply.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Feel Good Movie November 15, 1999
By A Customer
Format:VHS Tape
This was an excellent movie not because of it's good story line or wonderful acting (neither of which are true). Rather this movie stands out because of it's realistic adaption of American high schools. It deals with such subjects as drug abuse, bullies, intellectual segregation, and sex. Not to mention all of the actors were excellent choices for their roles. Karyn Parsons (from THE FRESH PRINCE OF BEL-AIR) was excellent as a beautiful nerd. Doug E.Doug was very funny in his role as a butt-kissing class clown. And best of all Alysia Rogers (BOYZ IN THE HOOD) was excellent as Damita the beautiful tough girl. Great movie! be sure to check it out.......Also look for an accidential movie folly that must of made it past the eyes of director Randall Miller. In the first classroom scene of this movie, Doug E.Doug accidently smacks Alysia Rogers on the chest.

Yeah, where is the release of this DVD?!!

All of the House Party series are on DVD (even in widescreen,) but instead of putting this classic B-movie on DVD, they give us the hella-crappy House Party 4! OMG, Kid's married, so they give another flick to a series that should not have been done after part 2 and let it star with the kids that played in the one that shouldn't have existed! Am I right?

Maybe the release of Kid N Play's Class Act has been overlooked for DVD, I hope that Amazon.com gets enough attention from its customers to holla at dub-b and get this released. I need to see ol' girl from Fresh Prince of Bel Air as the scholar chick, and the fiiiiiine chick with the nice e'ything as the b-girl (my fav is the part where they slide down the escape and you can see all that azz on that b-girl!!!)

I still see this movie on cable, but without all of the highlights (nahmean?) This one is way overdue for DVD, and I hope we get it soon. I hope my review helps some, the soundtrack's still available for like a dollar or something like that. This flick will be a puzzle missing from my collection until the day...

This is the best movie ever by Kid-N-Play I found it funny and cool. There was the geeky kid and then there was the hard gangsta that everyone was afraid of and they had switch schools. The geeky kid becomes pretty cool all in all a great movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars Class Act March 22, 2011
By M. Peni
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
Great film, always wanted to buy it on DVD, unfortunately it was not available. Bought the Archive copy version and its brilliant, good quality, both picture and sound. Comes with DVD case and front cover as advertised, just as good as a normal DVD. No special features, but who cares, I just wanted to watch the movie. Very pleased. Highly recommend to anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars You probably had to be there May 22, 2006
Format:VHS Tape
I almost bought this movie and thanks to the reviews realized that it was on VHS and not DVD.

Movies like this, I watch for nostalgic purposes, I was a young teen when this came out and I remember me and my friends laughing to death. Maybe if I were watching it for the first time now I might think it was a shallow attempt at a comedy.

For me these type of movies (House Party I and II, Menace to Society, Boyz in the hood, New Jack city, etc. ) helps bring me back to a time when there was nothing in the world to worry about.

Hope they put this one on DVD. Another series I would like to get on DVD is Roc (the comedy).

As you may know by now Sid has a real passion for 90's flicks. Whether it be horror, action, or comedy they all seem to be top notch in that corny b way we just can't get enough of. Class Act is a perfect example of this. It was released in 1992 between House Party 2 & 3. We can only assume that House Party 2 didn't fair too well in the box office and they decided to switch it up a bit before releasing a third House Party installment. If you are a fan of Kid n Play you should know what to expect with this one. Either you'll love it or think it's terrible.

This time we get to see Kid as an overachieving genius named Duncan who has a run in with the school delinquent Blade (Play). The school winds up switching their records around forcing them to assume new identities to keep Blade from his pending trouble with the law. As they struggle to get by in their new lives they begin to find the good things about being each other. Duncan gets to be feared by the entire school because they think he's a ruthless thug and Blade is thought of as a genius earning him a little action with Ellen (Hillary from Fresh Prince of Bel Air). Happy times! Of course they get themselves into some trouble and have their usual rap off, this time with a little help from the weasel himself Pauly Shore. It all gets patched up in the end and of course they become best buds to only be seen in House Party 3 one year later.

For us you can't help but love this movie. It's Kid n Play! What isn't to love about that? It doesn't quite have the goods House Party has but it's still a solid 90's comedy proving what a fun time that was. It's a shame they can't duplicate any films like this any longer without it being some awful dance hall competition crap.
