Editorial Reviews

Review

"Whether you call her your guilty pleasure or just know you need more von Ziegesar in your life, you're going to want this New York Times bestselling author's new novel in your beach tote this summer."—Elle.com

"Gossip Girl goes to college in this tart satire of the class of 2014. . . . Plenty of Animal House antics and wiseacre banter keep this light and breezy, but von Ziegesar, whose Gossip Girl novels spawned the megahit TV series, adds a crisp and surprisingly steely edge."—Publishers Weekly

"Enough scandal that the pages practically propel themselves."—Booklist

This book is amazing but don't get confused as it is the same book as "Cum Laude." I thought it was a sequel so I bought it and then realized it's the same book just with a different title/cover. If you love Gossip Girl you will love this book!

CLASS was originally published as CUM LAUDE, but retitled for obvious reasons - for eejits like me who don't know Latin or university stuff, and giggle at certain filthy-sounding words. We can all agree that CLASS is a much better title.

This is a standalone, but at first it's difficult not to be reminded of Cecily von Ziegesar's famous GOSSIP GIRL series. Shipley Gilbert is such a Serena, and she's kind of boring compared to the other characters. Her roommate Eliza is much sparkier, often greeting Shipley with, "Hey, Slutcakes." And Tragedy Gatz has personality galore.

The real humour comes from the male characters: Tom's adventures in ecstasy, ether, art, and acting are hilarious, and Nick's pot-smoking yurt haven is pretty funny, too.

It's a forgettable novel, but fun while it lasts.

P.S. Why is the story set in 1992?

The weirdest book I've ever read. Nothing like what you'd expect consider she wrote Gossip Girl. Wouldn't recommend to anyone

I have read the entire Gossip Girl series and I was absolutely glued to the novels. I could not put them down. I picked this up expecting it to be just as good if not better. However, I was very sadly disappointed. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone.
