Award of Superiority- MicroFilmaker Magazine. 9.5 out of 10!!!
Ease of Use 10.0, Depth of Options 10.0, Performance 8.0, Value vs. Cost 10.0 Overall Score 9.5
Complete Training for Adobe Premiere Pro CS4, is an interactive tutorial training DVD-Rom designed to teach the ins and outs of all the programs that officially come with the purchase of Premiere Pro (which includes OnLocation and Encore) to compose a video project. From using On Location during filming to final output in Encore in a chosen format, this tutorial step by step walks the User through all the necessary interfaces, preferences and control panels required to complete a professional project. Over sixty lessons in eleven subjects comprise the training that uses both visual and verbal explanation to show the software s use and abilities, as well as compatibilities between CS4 programs via Dynamic Link and use of Meta Data etc. Extremely detailed in its presentation, one would be hard pressed to find a section that is not covered fully. The tutorial is expertly lead and hosted by Emmy winner Tim Kolb, a director and post production guru, who obviously lives and breaths this stuff. Ease of Use- This product is very easy to use. Self-contained on a single disc DVD-Rom, included are both the interactive tutorials and all of the footage and photographs needed to work along with the lessons. If you can use a computer you will have no difficulty navigating the disc. By simply clicking on the desired lesson it plays the section picked with a simple play/pause button and a run time gauge. When each section is complete, the program automatically moves on to the next lesson. If you have to quit the program it can easily be picked up at the beginning of the lesson you chose. Another thing that is useful, is a complete list of the entire lesson course on the back of the DVD case and they are listed with decimals, which are easy to write down and come back to. Overall everything seems well laid out in a logical and useful manner. Depth of Options- Complete training for Premiere Pro CS4 contains a huge amount of information. With a runtime of eight and a half hours the content is exhaustive. The tutorials cover: Starting a Project, Organizing Media, Sequences, Editing, Effects, Audio, Creating Titles and Output in Adobe Premiere Pro CS4, as well as using On Location CS4, Encore CS4 and Dynamic Link. Each section has a breakdown of each step that makes that section work. For instance, in the Editing lesson, Tim Kolb uses and explains each of the following: Preferences, Interface, Editing Basics, Tools, Timeline Navigation, Transitions and Multi-cam Editing. So, effectively each lesson is divided in smaller specific sections that can be learned and grasped efficiently. Performance- I found that Complete Training is a very successful tool for learning Premiere Pro. Before now, I had never used this Adobe program to edit on. In film school, we were taught all of the standards at the time: Avid, Final Cut Pro,ect. But, never before had I ventured into Premiere territory. Complete Training for Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 is a great safety net. After completing the lessons I feel just as well versed in this system as any of the other ones that I have trained on. That is saying a lot. Value-At about $150 bucks, I feel that you could not spend the money any better. If you already invested in the software and the hardware it is not too much money to spend on the knowledge to use it. With infinite replay value, I believe this is a must have even if just brushing up your Premiere skills. Final Comments This is a great product. You can t go wrong with thistraining. I know $150 is no small sum of money but if you follow through with the lessons the investment will pay off. Trust me, compared to film school, $150 is nothing. --Nathan Eckelbarger - Microfilmaker magazine
