Thanks to my Dad, who frequently took me to the local used bookstore, a good chunk of my adolescence (in the early 90s) was spent devouring young adult novels like this one. I recently had a moment of panic thinking about how my own daughter (age 1) might not have an interest in books. Specifically, I pictured her throwing a book on the ground and telling me they are only for old people. I guess parental neurosis begins early. Anyway, this book & Marilyn Sachs as an author still remain in my mind 20 years later. This book depicts a very relevant struggle that many young women face as they grow apart from childhood friends and begin to wonder about their place in the world. I definitely preferred this type of "real world" YA fiction to the fantasy stuff, but anything that keeps kids reading is OK with me. I think this story is timeless though, as the struggles of teenage girls never really change.

I got this book in 7th grade, and read it so many times that it just about fell apart. It's still sitting on my bookshelf, with some of the pages just barely hanging on.
This is a story about friendship and growing up. Any young girl who has had a best friend can relate to this story. I shared this book with my junior-high best friend and she also loved it. I highly recommend this book to any pre-teen or teenage girls.

I read this book some 25 years ago. I loved it so much that I loaned it to a friend, who never returned it. I am going to purchased it today for my niece, who is almost 10, because I just can't hold out any longer. I wish to share with her the story that made me cry, made me laugh and helped made me fall in love with reading. To say that I recommend this book is a great understatement.

I really loved this book when I was an early teen. I have just purchased this so I can read it again and share it with my own daughter. Hopefully she'll enjoy it as much as I did.
