Book Description

September 2000
In their own words, American conservatives plan their strategies for financial power, and we'd better pay attention! Financial conservatives, with the aid of their political supporters, have been waging class warfare against working Americans for the past 20 years. Here is a guided tour of conservative America's agenda and strategies, fully documented- with actual quotes from the establishment press! Learn how financial conservatives are intentionally taking unfair advantage of working Americans. Just a few of the compelling chapters in this startling book include:
*

The Wage Inflation Lie: It's not wage inflation, it's profit inflation
*

Guess What You Are Now? Engineers, Ph.D.s, computer programmers, scientists, and other professionals are all designated "workers" under the conservative agenda Financial conservatives own Congress and the presidency. Class Warfare in America, with the help of the journals it quotes, makes it clear that what counts in today's economy are power and the laws that control incomes. As we enter the new millennium, voters need to understand which politicians have the interests of our total society at heart.

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Kelly is the author of The Great Limbaugh Con and Other Right-Wing Assaults on Common Sense (1994), in which he countered many of the outspoken conservative broadcaster's daily assertions. Kelly mans the ramparts again, this time to beat back the endless barrage fired by Business Week, Barron's, Fortune, Forbes, and the Wall Street Journal. Kelly uses direct quotes from these publications to document the many ways the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer. He warns that we continue to be conned into believing that free trade, technological development, income tax cuts, and deregulation all help everyone. The truth, insists Kelly, is that only "the top 20 percent of Americans" benefit. In particular, he charges that the effect--and intent--of policies to promote growth and check inflation are really to control income levels. Throughout, Kelly is unabashedly partisan; "never, ever, vote for a Republican, anywhere, for anything," he rails. David Rouse

Even as a life-long Republican, I find it hard to disagree with many of the arguments in this obviously Liberal writing. I highly recommend the book.

If the book fails anywhere, it is in providing direct examples of the transfer of wealth that takes place -- from the taxpayers to campaign contributors -- as a result of our public electoral system being financed by private money.

Superb & succinct account of the rise & rise of the plutocracy, using mostly quotations from the BIG FIVE US financial news organs. The most appalling thing is that the book was published in 2000, BEFORE the installation of the most rapacious Administration since the 19th century, perhaps ever.

For all our sakes, Bush & his pack of gold-plated curs must GO! The PEOPLE MUST VOTE at all levels and for all branches of government. It is the first responsibility of citizenship, not just a right that can be forfeited with impunity.

5.0 out of 5 stars After outlining problems, Kelly offers some solutions, February 23, 2001
This review is from: Class War in America: How Economic and Political Conservatives Are Exploiting Low- And Middle-Income American Families (Paperback)
Economic conservatives speak in this title, which uses quotes from the Wall Street Journal and other publications to show the intention of the conservative establishment to benefit corporations and investors at the expense of the lower classes. After outlining problems, Kelly offers some solutions for combating conservative agendas.
