dj quik does it again,
By Ryan Cairns (SYDNEY , AUSTRALIA) - See all my reviews

Its a shame that this album is one of the many slept on albums from the west coast hip hop scene. I am from Sydney, Australia and all i listen to is those flowin beats from producers such as Quik, Ant Banks, Tony G, Tone Capone and Shock G. This allbum is even better than their first one with songs such as STRAGGLAZ, PRINCESS, DONT DO THAT, UP IN DA CLUB and LOVE U. Quik is the most talented producer ever as he does all the producing as well as all the instruments himself. This is a must buy for anyone who wants something different from that commercial stuff played all the time. If u plan on having a summertime party then let this album bump through the speakers.

Great Album,

2nd II None comes off great, but the real reason I purchased this C.D. is to hear AMG and D.J. Quik. AMG is my favorite rapper of all time and I've been antisipating a new album from him. 2nd II None is great also, but when AMG comes on to the scene, it seems the song gets better. If you like this C.D. for sure you have to pick up D.J. Quik's Rythmalism. Quick, Hi-C, 2nd II None and especially AMG, keep coming out with that good West Coast Rap.

These are my loved one!!!,

The album is a straight hit, today, yesterday and forever without a doubt. Everyone is giving Quik props on the production. Trust me when I tell you Dee and K had just as much influence with the music. WE come from a musical background in our family. These are two of the most talented brothers without formal training on any instrument I ever seen. Very gifted young men, and there is more to come without Quik. He is a gifted young man himself no doubt about that. However, Quik did not make these men into to stars. They did on ther own. Quik was at my aunts house with them from the start making beats and rapping. My point in all this is, give 2nd II None their own props, without it sounding like it is all about Quik. Bottom line is, they all are Straight Outta Compton!!!
From you favorite loved one, The Orginal Black Ass, Stina Much love to you guys and I am looking forward to your next hit, and the next one and the next one and the next one after that... Keep hitting em' up side the head wit it!

After 8 years since their last album, they're finally back. This is the first new all 2nd II None meterial I've heard since the "Above the Rim" soundtrack in 1994 (not counting songs they were featured on), and I must say I like it. Out of the 12 songs, DJ Quik produces 10 of them so you know the beats are nothing less then great. Guests are the normal ones for the crew. The album does slide off after track 10 and picks up a little on the last track but it's too long hovering around 8 minutes (it is good to see all of them together again on one song but it could've been a 5 minute song). It has 1 classic and 2 songs I skip, with the other 7 being good or great. A must have west coast album.
#1 - 9 #2 - 10 (Classic -- f/ AMG & DJ Quik -- great relaxing beat) #3 - 9 (another relaxing beat) #4 - 8.5 (f/ AMG & James Debarge) #5 - 9 (f/ Mausberg {R.I.P.}) #6 - 9 (f/ Playa Hamm -- upbeat song about party's) #7 - 9 #8 - 8 #10 - 8 #11 - 5.5 (slower song) #12 - 6.5 #13 - 7.5 (f/ DJ Quik, Hi_C, AMG, Playa Hamm -- too long of a song) KK --- K. MacDonald -- b. around 1972 -- Compton, CA D --- Deon Barnett -- b. around 1972 -- Compton, CA CPT!!!!!!! check all my reviews

DJ QUIK IS REMARKABLY TALENTED AND 2ND II NONE IS TIGHT TOO!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Classic 220 (Audio CD)
I'M ONLY 17 SO I NEVER HEARD THEIR FIRST ALBUM, BUT JUDGING BY THIS ONE...IT MUST BE OFF THE HOOK. I LIVE ON THE EAST WHERE THEY ONLY PLAY EAST COAST MUSIC AND NOTHING ELSE. BUT THIS MUSIC IS TIGHT AS HELL! I'M REALLY GETTING INTO A LOT OF WEST COAST CD'S (DR. DRE 2001, 2ND II NONE CLASSIC 220, ETC.) BECAUSE JAY-Z, JA RULE, SLICK RICK, DMX, REMAN, METHODMAN, WU-TANG MEMBERS, AND A LOT OF OTHER EAST COAST RAPPERS ARE BEGINNING TO SOUND WAY TOO COMMERCIAL! JUST BECAUSE THEY GET NO RADIO PLAY OUT HERE DOESN'T MEAN THAT THEY'RE WACK. THIS IS A TIGHT RECORD. I LISTEN TO THIS CD AND MOBB DEEP ALL DAY EVERYDAY!

Fun "Pawdy" (party) Music (4.6 stars),
By Soul Groove "Formerly G-Funk 4-Ever" (Listenin' to the Delfonics) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Classic 220 (Audio CD)
2nd II None's second effort,"Classic 220," is yet another tight DJ Quik production, Like in most of Quik's productions, there is an inherent light-hearted G-Funk sound laced with fun, partyish themes. KK and Gangsta D spit nothing but game here. They party in "Up 'N Da Club" (w/ Quik and AMG, who is hilarious), "Pawdy," and the talk-box laced "Back Up Off The Wall." They Get sexual in "Whateva U Want," "Don't U Hide It." They get reflective on the hard life in the hood in "Y?" rhymed over whiny synthesizers and a funky background beat. Don't let this one slip by you!

Classic 2nd II None,
By Quik (southland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Classic 220 (Audio CD)
Just like their first album, this one is tight. Most people outside of Southern Cali don't know who they are, but that's because no label will promote them. This could very possibly be the album of the year, but only true DJ Quik & 2nd II None fans will even hear about it. Go out and get it if you can because it's an instant classic.

Classic 220 Is Definitely "Classic"!!,
This review is from: Classic 220 (Audio CD)
Its very rare and seldom that you find a great album so collective of controlled production throughout and done successfully with a style from West Coast legend producer DJ Quick. It may have been a while since 2nd II None had done an album but bringing another back in 1998/99 it seems they didn't get worse or even remain stable, this bunch has improved.
"Stragglaz" starts the 220 vehicle on the right note with cavi bass lines and great delivery from the duo. "Back Up Off The Wall" is a great track that shouts soul, R&B, and groove! The keyboards on the this one is smooth. "Up In The Club" is very flavorful to DJ Quick trademark sounds as this banger delivers in the club. "Whatever You Want" brings in De Barge hooks and nice guitar hooks on the bass heavy track. "Don't Do That" is a unique track with heavy synths and keyboards but is very humble with the nice hooks. It seems great CDs were coming around heavily at this time... and started to dwell out of the west coast. This is one of the better ones that I can remember to come out in some time. Classic 220 often finds its play in my vehicle and Ipod and has limited filler sound- if any. This album is also hard to find and well worth it if you can add it to your collection! |
