VOLUME 8: HOLIDAY CELEBRATION WITH MICKEY AND PALS
---Not the best program for young kids. I would suggest the next volume #9 " Disney's Classic Holiday Stories " for your young ones--- MICKEY'S GOOD DEED (B&W Mickey Mouse 1932): previously released on the "Disney Treasures: Mickey Mouse in B&W Volume 2" DVD. Mickey is a street singer who selflessly sells Pluto to a rich family to raise money for a poor family at Christmas. Pluto, however, has other ideas. **Some kids may be bothered by this story. The rich brat is cruel to Pluto!** PECULIAR PENGUINS (SS 1934): already on the "Disney Treasures: Silly Symphonies" DVD. A Silly Symphony cartoon about two sweetheart penguins. THE CLOCK WATCHER (Donald Duck 1945): already on the "Disney Treasures: Chronological Danald Volume 2" DVD. Donald works as a very funny department store gift wrapper who is not quite cut out for the job. RESCUE DOG (Pluto 1947) : already on the "Disney Treasures: Complete Pluto volume 2" DVD. Pluto stars as a rescue dog who ends up getting rescued himself. CORN CHIPS (Donald, Chip & Dale 1951) : First time on DVD! While shoveling snow, Donald discovers that the sidewalk isn't big enough for himself plus Chip and Dale. LEND A PAW (Pluto 1941): Previously released on the "Disney Treasures: Complete Pluto volume 1" DVD. Pluto is jealous over a new kitten, whom he wants to get rid of. But Pluto's good side wins out over his bad one. Academy Award® winner, Best Cartoon Short, 1941. TOY TINKERS (Donald, Chip & Dale 1949): First time on DVD, but announced for the "Disney Treasures: Chronological Donald volume 3" to be released this December 11 2007. Donald decorates for Christmas, but his best-laid plans are disrupted by Chip and Dale.

A SOLID COLLECTION!,
This review is from: Classic Cartoon Favorites, Vol. 8 - Holiday Celebration With Mickey & Pals (DVD)
I've been a bit tough on some of these recent Disney collections due to the fact that all or most of the shorts were already appearing on the Disney Treasures sets and so getting those were a much better value. But in this case, only three of these are on those Treasures sets and each is on a different one so it makes this a definite one to pick up. Certaintly they will eventually be on the Treasures editions but until then I would recommend this set. Be advised that even though it says holiday celebration not all of these shorts really have a holiday theme. Some are simply shorts that take place in the winter.
Rescue Dog 1947 - Pluto is a rescue dog in the snow-covered mountains of the frozen north. But when he tangles with a playful baby seal, it turns out that he is the one who needs to be rescued. Toy Tinkers - 1949 - It's Christmas time, and Chip 'n' Dale fight with Donald for the goodies under his tree. This was nominated for an Oscar as best short subject Corn Chips 1951 - Donald cons Chip and Dale into shoveling his snowy sidewalk, and ends up shoveling popcorn Clock Watcher - 1945 - Donald takes a job as a gift wrapper in a department store. Mickey's Good Deed 1932 - On Christmas Eve, Mickey needs money to help out a poor mother's desperate children. So he sells Pluto to a rich family- whose spoiled brat gives the pooch a real run for his money. Black & white Lend a Paw 1941 - Pluto is mean to a pesky little kitten, but saves it from drowning in a frozen river, thanks to his good conscience (the angel and devil in his head battle it out). Peculiar Penguins 1935 - A dance piece from the South Pole. Peter catches a fish to show his love for Polly. The fish expands when she eats it, making her look fat, and Peter foolish.

Kind of a misnomer...,

Since I've been picking up the Walt Disney's Treasures collections, I've been largely ignoring the "Classic Cartoon Favorites," but I decided to pick this one up to go with my library of Christmas DVDs. I was slightly disappointed when I watched it. Of the seven shorts included on this set, only three of them are holiday-related. "Mickey's Good Deed," an early cartoon about Mickey trying to provide a merry Christmas to a home of orphans, is the gem of the collection. It really shows off the inherent goodness of the character, and was a little funnier than some of the later cartoons, as he wasn't quite the straight man he would become.
"The Clock Watcher," a Donald cartoon, features the screwy duck working as a gift wrapper, and "Toy Tinkers" is a Donald-vs-Chip-and-Dale classic. The rest of the cartoons seem to have been included by virtue of being set in the wintertime, even though they've got nothing to do with the stated theme. They're okay cartoons, but not what I was looking for. Still, I'll get the other Holiday volume of this series (Vol. 9) as it contains probably the two greatest Disney Christmas cartoons -- "Pluto's Christmas Tree" and "Mickey's Christmas Carol."

they are being released in september so everyone can own a copy by the holiday season. these cartoons are timeless classics that can be enjoyed by both adults and children. considering they are not on television as much as the were years ago it's highly recommended to pic up both of disney's christmas classics, keep them coming.

This is a great mix of seven Disney classic cartoons.I remember watching all of these on TV at one point or another, but not for a number of years now.My 26 month old granddaughter also enjoys these and has asked to watch them several times.I bought this at Target for $9.99 which is a decent price.Perfect for family holiday viewing. If you like the older cartoons, you won't be disappointed.

Great holiday CD. And it has all the beloved "Disney" charaters. I feel the older cartoons, done in the late 60s, through the 70s and eary 80s, were the best.
Highly recommend.
