IT'S ABOUT DARN TIME!!!,

This review is from: Classic Cartoon Favorites, Vol. 4 - Starring Chip 'n Dale (DVD)
It's about time an affordable series of Disney cartoons was released. I know they've had some truly stellar gift sets, box sets, metallic box sets, etc, and those are GREAT. But not everyone can afford an investment of that sort. When my 17 year old son was about 4, we used to enjoy the heck out of Chip `n' Dale cartoons. Disney had a couple of video tapes dedicated to them, each with somewhere around 5 cartoons. They were less than $10 and believe me, we nearly wore those suckers out. Since the advent of DVD, we haven't had such an affordable little collection.
Now comes this new series, and I immediately had to snatch up the Chip `n' Dale collection. We get just under an hour of entertainment...a cross section of Chip `n' Dale's history. Although I don't have young kids anymore, the whole family enjoyed a little trip down memory lane with these undeniably funny characters. All the episodes where the two chipmunks torment poor Donald Duck are just hilarious. I highly recommend this affordable romp!

Great DVD, But Dissapointing,

I got this wonderful DVD today for my siblings and I (mainly me lol) to enjoy. I've always wanted to see these shorts again since you can't see them on tv (the Current Disney Channel sucks). All of the shorts are very funny, but I was dissapointed by one thing: none of the shorts were resorted in any way, it looks as if they wentr through a quick cleanup and that's it. I was expecting the picture quality on this to match that of the Goofy DVD (those were restored from the previous Treasures release), but sadly they do not. The picture is oversaturated and a bit too dark. It's great to finally have these shorts on DVD and I would recomend them to anyone who wants to see them again or who has small kids. But it would be nice if we got the perfect picture like with the Treasures DVD's. Buy and enjoy.

Very good, but should have twice as many cartoons.,

This would have been a five star release if not for:
1) it is too short and 2) It has only two of their three solo cartoons. "LONE CHIPMUNKS" is missing and SHOULD have been included. It is unlikely that Chip & Dale will get their own Disney Treasures DVD release with only three cartoons. Unlike most of the Cartoon Favorites series DVDs, this installment mostly features cartoons not yet available on the Disney Treasures series. The descriptions are already included above, so I will give the duplication run down here: CHIP AND DALE (1947)- NEW TO DVD but expected to be on the Disney Treasures: Chronological Donald volume 3 to be released this Dec. 11 2007. TREE FOR BREAKFAST (1948) - NEW TO DVD but expected to be on the Disney Treasures: Chronological Donald volume 3 to be released this Dec. 11 2007. OUT ON A LIMB (1950) - NEW TO DVD but expected to be on the Disney Treasures: Chronological Donald volume 3 to be released this Dec. 11 2007. FOOD FOR FEUDIN' (1950) - Only cartoon already released on "Disney Treasures: Complete Pluto volume 2". OUT OF SCALE (1951) - NEW TO DVD, not yet announced for any Donald Duck release. CHICKEN IN THE ROUGH (1951) - NEW TO DVD - solo Chip & Dale cartoon. TWO CHIPS AND A MISS (1952) - NEW TO DVD - solo Chip & Dale cartoon. WORKING FOR PEANUTS (1953) - NEW TO DVD, not yet announced for any Donald Duck release. DRAGON AROUND (1954) - NEW TO DVD, not yet announced for any Donald Duck release. Bottom line: This is a MUST GET DVD!

A great DVD with a few problems,
By Curtis Mitchell (Peoria, AZ USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Classic Cartoon Favorites, Vol. 4 - Starring Chip 'n Dale (DVD)
How can a DVD be "great" and only merit three stars? Simple - while the actual content is genuine gold, the presentation and selection of that content is highly questionable. Each short on this disc is fantastic, doubly so if you're a Chip n' Dale fan, as I am. You'll be laughing for the entire sixty minutes at a great set of cartoons that show what made Disney so great. I don't give the cartoons themselves three stars, indeed the cartoons are deserving of five stars.
Unfortunately the package itself leads to some serious questioning. To begin, none of the cartoons appear to have been restored - the transfers are particularly shoddy. Compared to the Disney Treasures sets, the cartoons on this disc look very dark and dull - this is very unfortunate as it does little justice to the incredible talents of the Disney production studio. Having compared a few of the shorts that are included on this set to their counterparts on The Chronological Donald Volume 3, I can say that I am very disappointed. Secondly, like other reviewers here on Amazon, I question the selection of cartoons for the disc. While there are some very funny cartoons on the disc, I would have loved to see The Lone Chipmunk, a short that is likely not to appear on the Disney Treasures sets. At least the set does include Chicken in the Rough (a fantastic short) and Two Chips and a Miss, both solo outings. Most of the shorts will showcase what made Chip n' Dale such great antagonists for the ever irascible (and ever hilarious) Donald Duck. The DVD is saved, perhaps, by its low price. At $9.99 USD this DVD is a real bargain. While I regret that the presentation is of very low quality, the simple fact is that the disc has sixty minutes of hilarious cartoons is well worth the entry fee. I would gladly play three times the cost of this disc for restored shorts and some special features. The other DVDs in the Classic Cartoon Favorites series might be worth missing out but this disc makes for a fantastic companion piece to the Disney Treasures discs, in particular because a lot of the content has yet to see release on those sets. Do check your Disney Treasures sets against the cartoon list on this DVD as you'll prefer the transfers on those sets more then this disc but if you're just looking for some Chip n' Dale cartoons without being a serious collector then this disc is a real bargain - great for kids young and old. Thus, despite what would be regarded as some major flaws by serious collectors, I can still heartily recommend this very funny DVD.

This is a cute DVD. For the price, you get 8 or 9 cartoons. Regardless of how many times I have seen these, they are always funny. It will keep a child occupied for an hour. This makes a great birthday or get well present. I am only giving this DVD 4 stars because I had hoped to see more cartoons with Chip and Dale by themselves. Still, the cartoons included with this DVD are funny, especially when Chip and Dale are with Donald Duck.

As an ardent Disney fan I was very pleased to see the release of the Chip 'n Dale collection which I had hoped would include every cartoon they ever appeared in.
However a few are missing which is very disappointing for collectors especially as there would have been plenty of room on the dvd to include them. Poor show Disney.

This movie was enjoyed by my 1 1/2 year old daugther, 6 year old son, 38 year old husband and ME (no age needed LOL!) This DVD is another prefect example of a great disney cartoon - It is worth watching!

I bought this DVD for my 3 1/2 year niece. She loves it! The chipmunks talk really fast, but it doesn't really matter what they are saying because it's all about the physical comedy!! It's hilarious! Even I enjoy watching it over and over again with her. I read in some of the reviews that the DVD quality was shoddy and was surprised that it wasn't. Yes, the colors maybe be darker than nowadays cartoons, but honestly, I liked the rich technicolor colors. There were some small blips and stuff, but really not noticeable. It reminded me of watching Disney film reels in Elementary school. For $9.99, this DVD is a gem of a deal. An hour's worth of cartoons is plenty! Nowadays cartoons just cannot match these classic toons.

If you grew up watching these classic cartoons, this DVD is PERFECT for a trip down memory lane. The amazing thing about watching these cartoon shorts as an adult is realizing how much work was put into each bit. Each cartoon is fully orchistrated and is really a step above anything you can find today. Buy this DVD. You will love the memories. Your kids will love them as much as you did when you were their age.
