One of the best albums of all time!,

A wonderful variation and compilation of songs from Moby to Maxwell. It's such a peaceful album to listen to that I even listen to it while I study. If you like music by Enya, Dido, Moby, Jill Scott, Maxwell, etc., then you'll love this album.

Soul Soothing Selections,
This review is from: Classic Chillout Album (Audio CD)
For reading or relaxing, The Classic Chillout Album creates a comforting ambience. The selections are soothing and keep to a consistent laid-back mood. There is enough variety to keep you relaxed and entertained. Classics like Sade's Ordinary Love are instantly recognizable and Sweet Lullaby by Deep Forest invites in the exotic. The album begins with more edgy selections and then turns romantic and sensual at the end, making this perfect to listen to with someone you love. Perfect as a relaxing background while giving massage, reading books in bed or for escaping into a relaxing bath. Play this on your stereo while you watch a fireplace DVD and curl up with a good book. Hot chocolate with whipped cream and freshly grated nutmeg, optional, but comforting.

It is fairly good but bland at times,

I bought a copy of this album about two months ago when I saw a commercial on television advertisement for this album which at the time was not available in stores for the public. I bought a copy over the website. At the time, I thought this compilation was excellent but after I bought the German import of a similarily titled chillout compilation, my mind has drastically changed. I found the German import to be more compelling to listen to than this album. First and foremost, I could have lived without the tracks by Jill Scott and Maxwell. Not that I didn't like the songs but they sounded so out of place on this cd while Sade's "No Ordinary Love" was perfect with her silky smooth vocals. On this album you got the standard tracks by Moby, Delerium, Deep Forest, and Chicane, and Dido that you could find on a lot of chillout albums nowadays. Yawn! I love "Porcelain" and the Chillin' With the Family Mix of "Here With Me" but seriously, is it really necessary to put those songs on every chillout album? And "Sweet Lullaby" all over the place on new age compilations, I just want to pull my hair out from frustration. I like the song but is it really necessary to put that tired ol' song on another compilation? Surprisingly enough, one of my favorite tracks on this album is Jame Horner's "Rose" (from "Titanic"). Beautiful song, even moreso without the vocals from Celine Dion. I adored the Craig Armstrong track (w/Elizabeth Fraser) "This Love", Charlotte Church's "Just Wave Hello", Endorphin "Satie 1", Strange Cargo's (w/Beth Orton) "She Cries Your Name", and Tangerine Dream's "Love On a Real Train". Now while I liked a lot of songs on this album, there were a lot of flaws on this album. And as much as I like Evea Cassidy's version of "Fields of Gold", I didn't think it had any place on this album like the tracks by Jill Scott and Maxwell. Overall it is a good album but too bland. I rather spend a few more bucks on imports with a more diverse selection than this album has to offer.

If you like unique music with a contemporary flare this is a good CD to buy. I lost this CD twice and have ordered my 3rd one. I travel overseas and domestically. This CD is loved by people from all over the US and from my friends abroad. It has a few TV show/movie tracks on it such as the open theme to the show "House" as well as the train ride love scene from the movie "Risky Business:. Try it. You'll like it.

Unfortunately, the songs on this album aren't available as single purchases, which is fitting because they know people would not buy most of the music on this album (which is legally required to pay all the artists a fixed split fee). And if you are into this music, you probably already own 'Porcelein', 'Teardrop', and the actual full version of 'Love on a Real Train' (this version is edited, and poorly so, with amateurish transitions), and maybe 'Rose (Titanic)'. The main reason I got this was for 'Jung at Heart', part of the current (Summer 2011) music lineup on Weatherscan, and it is difficult to find anywhere (legally, and without downloading an untrusted EXE to your hard drive). So it was a very expensive purchase of ONE song. I prefer Sarah Brightman's version of 'Here with Me'. Most of the other songs on this album (beyond the ones mentioned above) are unmemorable. So it was an overall disappointment. If I could split my vote, I'd give 4 stars for 'Porcelein', 'Teardrop', and 'Jung at Heart' and one star for the rest.

I purchased this album because I LOVE Jung at Heart from the Volkswagon commercial titled Synchronicity. The song is so chill, peaceful and fun. SInce you can't purchase the song MP3 or on it's own, I had to order the CD and was pleasantly surprised. This is great background music when you're home and great sit down with a glass of wine and unwind music. I'm impressed and now don't own the CD for 1 song!

I never leave home without it. I love this CD so much that I frequently give it away as a gift and I never go on a vacation or road trip without it. It is easy listening on those long drives, great driving music!!

Classic Chillout Album,

Definitely music to relax with. This is one of my most played CDs, now again. I say again as this is a replacement for a borrowed CD that was "lost" by a friend. Perhaps they just could not part with it! Get it and chill......

For those who already own chillout collections from Ministry of Sound, Hed Kandi, and Naked Music, there is absolutely no reason to get this disc. Sony Music jumps on a bandwagon that's already getting stale with this collection of downtempo grooves. For the most part, the songs in themselves are pretty good, but we get predictable artists like Moby, Massive Attack, and Deep Forest who have already appeared on countless other discs. If a label is going to release an album of this nature, then it should dig deep and include rare quality tunes that may be underexposed. To its credit, it DOES have Jill Scott and Maxwell, giving this disc a welcome, soulful slant. But a couple of other tunes are questionable. What's music from the film "Titanic" doing here, for example? I can't say that this compilation is a bust, but it does almost nothing to separate itself from the rest of the other chillout CDs that are rapidly filling up record store bins. It's chillout with a corporate twist.
