Book Description

February 1, 2010

The breakthrough book that has helped over half a million Christians worldwide since 1989!

Classic Christianity--Bob George's eye-opening distillation of the life-transforming truths of the gospel--now has a fresh cover and interior that reflect the up-to-the-minute relevance of its message.

Like so many Christians, Bob George started out in love with Jesus, only to end up feeling disappointed and empty. Drawing on his struggles and his teaching and counseling experience, Bob cuts to the heart of believers' common questions...

  • Doesn't God expect me to clean up my act before I approach Him?
  • I know God loves me--but does He accept me?
  • I'm saved and forgiven... do I just wait for heaven now?

In Classic Christianity, believers will see the way back to the life Jesus provided--a life set free from the law's bondage, lived in the newness of the Spirit, and secure in the Father's affection. Find out more at www.classicchristianity.com.

About the Author

Bob George is the bestselling author of Classic Christianity, Growing in Grace, and Victory over Depression. Formerly he was with People to People Ministries, which he founded and of which he was president for over 30 years. He was unable to continue on their daily nationwide biblical counseling broadcast due to illness. Bob lives with his wife, Amy, in Texas.

From AudioFile

Bob George, seasoned counselor and radio host of "People to People," wrote this book for anyone who feels disappointed and empty, anyone who lacks peace, contentment, and joy in his or her Christian walk. With a precise delivery, he portrays his own Christian journey--from his first fresh love for Jesus to a faith that eroded into empty disappointment over time and then came out on the other side. He uses personal illustrations in tones of genuine emotion to reveal that knowing Christ personally is far different from simply knowing about Christ. Those who only know about Christ are in what he calls a "half-gospel" relationship instead of a "full-gospel" spiritual relationship. He delivers his thought-provoking message in a spirited manner that emphasizes how to develop a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. 5.0 out of 5 stars There is NOTHING like God's Grace... January 7, 1999
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
I have been a Christian for 15 years and my faith has been a heavy burden for me for so long and I never understood why. Peace and joy were only words to me. I assumed that I just had not yet achieved "authentic Christianity" and that I had to work to achieve that level before I could know those things that God promises. Boy, was I off base. Bob George's book literally changed my life (and I don't use that phrase liberally or lightly). It showed me the true gospel message that I had been missing for so long. For the first time in my depressed life, God lifted the blackness and I knew what peace and rest meant. I now know more about what salvation REALLY means: true life on earth not just biding our time until we get to heaven. The Lord meets you where you are. Thank God for that AND for Bob George's book. A must read for anyone looking for rest in their faith.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb! June 18, 2003
Format:Paperback
This title is the second one I have read by Bob George. After reading "Faith that Pleases God" and being disappointed, I wanted to read his best-selling work. Now I understand why so many people have shown interest in this particular author.

George addresses a problem that is all too prevalent in Christian circles today: legalism. Far too many people have found salvation through faith in Christ alone, only to be enslaved by a long list of religious duties and spiritual obligations. George brings his readers back to the Scriptural basics here. He repeatedly makes the point that God saves us and KEEPS us saved through grace alone.

I recommend this book highly to all Christians, especially those believers from conservative or fundamentalist backgrounds. George proclaims God's Biblical truth about salvation and sanctification. In doing so, he sets his readers free.

5.0 out of 5 stars A step out of doing and a step into being August 28, 1998
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
Bob George has explained the true essence of the Gospel in such a way that you'll wonder how you ever missed it in the first place. The words of the Bible have not changed, but after reading Classic Christianity, the way you see those words will. Through wonderfully relevent analogies and the author's own true-to-life stories, you will come to an understanding of how much the Christian life is identity, not behavior -- being, not doing.

Though having grown up in the church, I turned away from God as I entered college. Before I graduated, however, I came back to Him because of the Gospel message as taught to me by Bob George. That was five years ago and I'm still plugging along with the full realization that His grace means everything. I've read Classic Christianity countless times in the 5 years since first picking it up and it never gets old, it only gets better. This book is rarely on my bookshelf, though. I seem to keep giving it away.
