Gosh it's fun to read this book to friends as you are sloshing something together for them they've never tried before. The illustrations are so fine and the wordplay will make everyone laugh. Seeing the movies he references only enhances the experience. I highly trust the proportions he recommends, too. For instance, a Jack Rose is often prescribed as a 2 to 1 affair but Kingwell's research pays off for the amateur barkeep. Stick with 4:1 and follow his directions and you will experience something new and winderful. This is my go-to book for classic mixin's and I have even taken it with me to my favorite bars to (diplomatically) show and tell to the pros.
