Disappointing, Classic is not Classic,

This review is from: Classic Connolly (Audio CD)
If you saw an album titled "Classic" with a name like George Carlin, Bill Cosby, Robin Williams, Monty Python, you would naturally think Classic = some of the very best bits.In this case classic means real old, not necessarily good. Recorded live somewhere at some time (there is no information on the sleeve), it seems to be very early Connolly, as he is making the transition from folk singer to stand-up comedy. A good amount of the material not only depends on being able to understand a Glaswegian patter, but also requires some geographical knowledge of Glasgow itself. A lot of scatalogical humour, and too many folk singing comedy songs. It is as if this recording company found an old tape of Connolly's that they had rights to, so they decided to cash in. There is a reason the price on this is so low.

Classic Connolly is like a glass of Guinness Ale,

This is an excellent piece of Billy Connolly's early work, its rich and darkly humorous set of stories.
He keeps the audience rolling in laughter and he has a great singing voice, which carries the tales along to make you feel your there in the heart of the story. The only downside of this album is I would not recommend this for first-time listerners; hence the four star rating. His accent is thick as molasses and sometime hard to understand. My wife and I listened to him and had to re-listen to certain parts to get the punchline, but this is a very good album to listen to learn the true meaning of Jock and Jocular Humor. I purchased Connolly in NY(DVD); which is one of his more recent works is a better choice to introduce him to new listeners,so they can get used to his accent. After which I went back and relistened to Classic Connolly and understood his material alot better.

What really happened at the Last Supper,
By A Customer
This review is from: Classic Connolly (Audio CD)
This collection is a must for Scottish culture fans and comedy fans alike. If you're "scottish language impaired" you'll have to listen close to get through the broad Glaswegian brogh, but you'll laugh 'til you hurt at Connolly's retelling of Christ's prophecy at the Last Supper - a dishy affair held at the Saracens Head Inn - a great wee spot for cocktails of an evening in Gallowgate - not Galilee. This is some of COnnelly's best early work - its like coming back to your favorite George Carlin routines - still drop dead funny
