Too-Cute Filler Mars Good Collection, July 29, 2001
This review is from: Classic Country: 1970-74 (Audio CD)
Like all the Time-Life CLASSIC COUNTRY discs, you will find crisply remastered original recordings by original artists here. The titles include Loretta Lynn's "Coal Miner's Daughter," Mel Tillis' "I Ain't Never," Barbara Fairchild's "Teddy Bear Song," George Jones' "The Grand Tour," Donna Fargo's "Funny Face," Merle Haggard's "If We Make It through December," Ray Price's "For the Good Times," Charley Pride's "Kiss an Angel Good Mornin'," Dottie West's "Country Sunshine," Conway Twitty's "You've Never Been This Far Before," Charlie Rich's "A Very Special Love Song," Tammy Wynette's "He Loves Me All the Way," Tom T. Hall's "I Love," Dolly Parton's "Coat of Many Colors," and the Statler Brothers' "Do You Remember These?" Clearly, the landmark contributions by Jones, Parton, Haggard, Price, and Pride outweigh the fluff by Fairchild and Fargo. This disc offers a good indication of the deep influence pop music would have on country music for the remainder of the decade, as well as the traditional music values left behind. Time-Life should be commended for this series, since it includes works from many labels and offers a true representation of the state of country music at that time.
