Wilma Lee Cooper...LEGEND,
By Bruce A. McGuire (Antioch, tn United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Classic Country Favorites (Audio CD)
If you're familiar with the music and history of this great lady, you'll enjoy this collection. If, not, it's a good start. For those in attendance at the Ryman, or listening to the Opry this past Saturday night, February 24th, when Wilma Lee Cooper suffered a mild stroke during her performance and continued to complete her set, they learned the true meaning of what a "star" really is. New artists and the music industry should take note. For a lady who has performed for over 68 years, been honored by the Smithsonian, Library of Congress, Harvard University and nearly every state in the union and Canada, she has been relatively ignored by the industry and city she chose to call home and promote. Artists like Wilma Lee are fast becoming a thing of the past. Thankfully she will fully recover and hopefully we'll have her around another 80 years. If you looked up the words "legend" and "star" in the dictionary, they could be described in three words, Wilma Lee Cooper. nashbruce@aol.com

A National Treasure,
By Tom Moran "Tom Moran" (Pittsburgh, PA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Classic Country Favorites (Audio CD)
Wilma Lee Cooper is truley a National Treasure. A member of the Grand Old Opry since 1957, Wilma Lee is still a vibrant performer, who shouldn't be missed if you have a chance to see her. This CD is a compelation of songs from Wilma Lee's solo career (recorded after the passing of her musical partner and husband, Stoney), but it is only the tip of the iceberg. For the true hardcore Wilma Lee and Stoney sound, seek out "Walking My Lord Up Calvary Hill". A definative multi-CD collection of Wilma Lee's music is sorely needed, but as she recorded for so many labels over her long career, legal logistics make such a collection a near impossibility.

Totally Awesome,
By Fan in Arizona (Kingman, AZ USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Classic Country Favorites (Audio CD)
This is a truly awesome CD of pure, classic country music-- no drums, horns, or choirs on this one-- only the acoustic instruments that were found "back in the hills" accompany the splendid country voice of Wilma Lee. The days when pure country music such as this were produced in Nashville are long gone. We need to listen to CDs like this to realize how much has been lost in today's "modern" country music.
