Wow! I was so excited about the release date of this item, but when I received it all I saw were sweaters that might look good on my mother (I'm in my late forties). These sweaters look dated and lack imagination. There is very little shaping in these pastel colored items. I have never sent back a knitting book. I sent this back today. Classic Elite Knits could have been so much better, but it's not.

No, this isn't a book full of high-fashion, high-style knits. It is a book of good, basic designs - designs that could lead a knitter to modify and embellishment and tweak as desired or that could be knitted up, as is, for some classic good looks.

And to address a point raised by another reviewer, of the 39 styles for women, only 10 are in colors that could be classified as "pastel." And that's if you include a soft blue-gray, old gold, lime, and cream in your definition of pastel. Besides, the color of yarn a sweater is pictured in does not limit the color to be chosen by the knitter.

In addition to the 39 women's styles, there are 16 classic styles for men, 24 styles for children, and 16 different patterns for accessories. (Most of the accessories are sort of lame, in my opinion, though there are a couple of cute bags.)

If you're looking for a book of good, basic patterns...then check this one out.

Another one of those books whose cover is deceiving with a modern and fresh feel but full of recycled and outdated materials inside that leaves you in disbelief after looking through it.
ALL the garments in this book---yes, I mean ALL--are frumpy and shapeless. I guess Pam Allen (CE's creative director) was not involved in the creation of this book. Very disappointing.

This book has solid classic patterns. Nothing too fashion forward. Some interesting treatments...

I am an intermediate knitter with dozens of knitting books. It seems I buy most books because there are 2 or 3 patterns I really love. This book is different. Nearly every pattern is something I would actually make. I've started on one and can't wait to finish so I can get to more of them!

This was helpful to have as one volume of all the older Classic Elite patterns. Keep in mind, however, that most are advanced knitting patterns. Very few are appropriate for beginners.

I am a fan of Classic Elite yarn. They have a wide variety of yarns: wool, alpaca, llama, silk, etc. I have always enjoyed knitting with Classic Elite and am happy to have this book which compiles so many of their patterns in one place.

The book does not appear to have many errors as many knitting books do. Since these patterns have been tried and tested, the kinks have been worked out.

I do not agree with many of the reviewers who describe the patterns as frumpy or not useful. There are many classic patterns and also more contemporary and creative types. The book has patterns for children and adults, men and women. There is enough variety in this book for anyone to find something they would like to knit. I highly recommend it.

While I have a number of pattern books already, I don't have any Classic Elite booklets, so all of these patterns are new to me. This is a wonderful addition to my collection, and a complete and solid book full of classic designs for all members of the family. I will make many of them as written, and am considering mods to some others. I consider it a great foundation book.

I have searched for years for a collection of knitting patterns that are classic, yet have interesting details. This book has provided me with many great knitting projects. It contains instructions that range from easy to knit, to the more advanced. I highly recommend it to all knitters regardless of their experience.

Several members of my knitting group are getting their own copies! Stylish designs which are not "way-out" and will suit any age group.
