About the Author

Since learning to quilt in 1970, Bettina has immersed herself in the quilt world. She wears many hats–quilt appraiser, quilt show judge, quilt historian, quiltmaker, and consultant. She shares her love for quilting with others by teaching, lecturing, and writing. Teaching has given her a chance to travel to Germany, Scotland, and England, where her love of traditional English medallion-style quilts was born. In her capacity as a quilt historian, Bettina has been an active member of the American Quilt Study Group since 1980 and served on the advisory board of the International Quilt Study Center in Lincoln, Nebraska. She has also been a board member for the Museum of the American Quilter's Society in Paducah, Kentucky. Bettina's study of historical patchwork and appliqued blocks resulted in her book Carrie Hall Blocks, which features piecing diagrams for sewing and pattern templates for creating 200 of these blocks.

This review is from: Classic English Medallion Style Quilts (Paperback)
Anyone with years of quilting experience
tires eventually of the geometrically
humdrum block styles, however innovative
the settings and contents. In this 103
page book, Bettina Havig has done all the
math and geometry necessary to produce
stunning medallion quilts. There are
planning charts, dimensions, graphics
and splendid photography: all you need
to succeed. To keep you inspired in this
not for beginners enterprise, she has
added her scholarly historical notes
and wonderful photography. I read a
lot of quilt literature and this one
really grabbed me. I read it cover to
cover, then reviewed the graphics and
photography. An absolutely must have.
I will read anything this author writes;
she is a delight.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite quilt books, January 23, 2011
This review is from: Classic English Medallion Style Quilts (Paperback)
This is a wonderful book. It is a visual feast of beautiful quilts and a compendium of English medallion quilt history. The instructions are clear. I refer to it often for inspiration for other quilts. If I need a pieced border it has many great ideas. I have even given copies of this book as gifts to quilty friends.
