This is an excellent but big tricycle. If you have a smaller kid or your kid is 1.5-3yo consider the kettrike kalista or junior.

We have no less than thirty wheels in the backyard installed on pedalless bikes, multiple tricycles, big wheels, wagons.... all sorts of stuff. Of the three tricycles I currently have this Kettler 12" is the best built and most stable by a long shot. It's higher quality than any other wheeled toy we have. The ergonomics are excellent as well. It is a larger tricycle and I recommend you consider another model if your kid is not >35 inches tall and they may still need to grow into it. My daughter is just under 4yo, 38" tall and about 37lbs. I have the seat on its lowest setting and it just about perfect for her.... this is for 3.5year old kids and up unless you have a big kid!

The seat is painted white probably to reduce hot-seat due to sun exposure.

The quality of hardware and manufacturing is surprisingly nice.

The only thing I had to figure out was the bell. It may be in the instructions, but there is a stud that the top half of the bell screws on for assembly. On this stud is a nut that sets the height at which the top half of the bell seats. I installed mine too far down and the bell would not ring. Just play around with the nut and stud to get the proper height on the upper bell half.

This is an excellent buy and a quality tricycle. I previously bought the low profile Schwinn tricycle with inner tubes and rubber tires and it just got ignored if you know what I mean. Plus the tires were half flat all the time. For the smaller kid I have a fold to go radio flyer tricycle that flips over if you look at it funny... not nice at all. After seeing how nice this kettler was designed I decided to replace the radio flyer tricycle with the kettrike Kalista... it has a frame that adjusts and a lower seat than the fold to go radio flyer. It costs twice as much but it's worth the extra money.

This is a generally high quality tricycle. Unfortunately upon opening the box, we were missing a couple of parts. Also important to know is that for some reason, the company elected to put the bolts, washers and locking nuts in the position where they would eventually be used rather than in the parts bag. This made no sense to me, but I happened to find them.

We have a tall 2 year old and this tricycle is too big for him right now. I would recommend a 10" if your child isn't at least 2.5 years old.

Outside of that, the tricycle is of high quality and will be well used for us in the near future.

I picked this trike out for its size. My 3 year old had a smaller trike, and he's just not ready for a bicycle yet. I like the size of this one. It is a classic/retro design, so it comes with some classic/retro problems, such as metal-on-metal contact that can result in some noticably squeeky noises. Also, in putting it together, you have to get that back wheel on, and that requires some skill because if you hit it too hard, you'll break the connection piece, but if you don't hit it hard enough then the tire will come off.

I give this trike 5 stars because it really is well-made and beautiful. My 1.5-year-old daughter is a little too short for it and doesn't yet understand how to peddle it and steer it, but she loves being pushed down the sidewalk on it. It is sturdy, made of very solid metal, and has a bell and streamers, which are great. The seat is also adjustable, so I know she will get years of use out of it. I do warn you, though, that it is difficult to put together, especially getting handlebars straight. I put it together myself, and it took me about an hour-and-a-half to get it right. The instructions also say on the front that you'll need a hammer, but what you really need is a rubber mallet. You'll also need 2 good wrenches and a screwdriver. If you aren't at all mechanically inclined, you may need some help with assembly.

The trike is wonderful. My only complaint is that it is difficult to keep the handlebars tight and they want to swivel without moving the front wheel fork. Teflon tape solved the problem for us

Pros:

Well-built, heavy-duty construction. Looks like it will stand up to a decent amount of abuse from my kids. Easy to put together.

Cons:

Heavy (which makes it harder to pedal), but it also acts as a speed limiter for my toddler.

This trike was recommended by my local bicycle shop (they don't carry trikes) the difference in this trike vs. cheaper ones is quality of frame and has real rubber tires, not plastic. This makes a difference in traction, the cheap plastic tires will just spin and not go anywhere. Assembly was easy and all parts were in the box. Only problem is the bell that came with the trike didn't work.

This is a beautiful bike! It is utterly charming.

Putting it together was extremely easy. The directions were several steps. Look carefully at the instructions describing how to attach the rear wheel axle to the framework. In particular, pay attention to the relationship of washer, bushing, and wheel. I did it correctly the second time.

Our youngest granddaughter finally got to the age when she is looking for pedals instead of pushing herself along -- luckily on just about the same day this showed up on sale at a good price.
