5.0 out of 5 stars Elegant Book of An Elegant Golf Swing
Crenshaw is not only a successful pro but also he is a passionate student of golf's history. So he is the perfect one to compile this side-by-side analysis of Jones' swing.

Martin Davis who edits this book found a box of over 100 photos of Jones' swing. Along with these were handwritten notes explaining the photos.

So, on one page is the B&W of Jones, then...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not what I was hoping for
I purchased this sight unseen because I love Bobby Jones, thinking that this would be and instruction book as if Bobby had written it. But that was not the case.
There are some very nice photos of BTJ, but most of the book is about Ben Crenshaw, whom we are told has a swing very similar to Bobby's, kind of.

Good photos, not instructive. Disappointed.

So, on one page is the B&W of Jones, then parallel is the four-color swing of Crenshaw and his discussion of Jones' notes.

It is masterful, elegant and a true keepsake to any serious golf historian's collection. A must!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book!, January 3, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Classic Golf Instruction (Hardcover)
This is truly Classic Instruction. Not only does it give great basic fundamental instruction from "The Greatest" Bobby Jones but Ben Crenshaw shows the more modern swing as well.

Great photos of Bobby Jones and his techniques.

It's also a must have for Jones' unique lost writings finally in print for the world to see. Great for a golf book collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent golf instruction and gift book, May 24, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Classic Golf Instruction (Hardcover)
This is a very fine (and unusual) book on golf instruction. Using original photos and text from the old master Bob Jones, modern master Ben Crenshaw compares his swing and golf philosophy to Jones' swing and golf philosophy. This is also a very fine gift book--handsome and not too expensive. I recommend it highly to golf enthusiasts and neophytes alike.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sir Two Star: Sorry you missed the drive, wedge and the putt., February 16, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Classic Instruction (Hardcover)
Regarding the two star: Sorry you missed the drive, wedge and the putt. Go back to the sandbox and crayons.

"Classic Instruction" is not meant to be used alone. This book is meant to supplement "On Golf" by Bobby Jones. "On Golf" has only one drawing at the start of each chapter. These are the excellent drawings, pardon me ILLUSTRATIONS, of Anthony Ravielli which are worth more than a picture by a factor of 10. "Classic Instruction" is side by side pictures of Bobby Jones and the modern method with the differences explained.

The only problem is the type of binding. Mine purchased at Amazon for $3.74 and shipped free has pages falling out. Next version I will pay at least $5 and save the $0.02 of glue.

Those in the know will know which book to buy in addition to these. As I am searching for a low priced version I will not mention it. I have one Harry Vardon book on order after watching the movie "The Greatest Game Ever Played". I am looking for his "How to Play Golf." Mr. Vardon and Mr. Jones as I read had a style that was an art to watch.

My clubs are from a thrift store at $2 each for my three drivers of Persimmon and Brass. Much more stylin' than the chink sound of the $600 club. My putters were more. A Spalding made in 1926 and an Oleg Cassini or sum such name made in 1949. The 1949 has an oak handle. Now if I can find the clothes to style with both of these men. I also use my $400 driver which was a gift from a good buddy.
