1.0 out of 5 stars Disgraceful !!
What a complete disgrace. To publish a "picture book" of beautiful guitars in a 6" x 8" format size.

THIS IS NOT A NOVEL ....THIS IS A PICTURE BOOK !!

The book is too small to see the pictures, let alone appreciate details in the guitars.

Under magnifying glass and a bright lamp ...I'M NOT KIDDING...there is some redemption...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Guitar Calendar, February 12, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I needed a calendar for the office, and I'm a bit of a guitar junkie. I looked around for quite a while. I wanted one that I could write on, that wasn't cluttered. This one works just fine for my needs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great guitar calendar of artistic beauties, December 21, 2010
This calendar has spectacular photography of vintage & classic guitars. The history of each guitar is described very well and often what famous musicians have favored the particular instrument. I would recommend this great calendar to anyone who likes instruments or guitars in particular. The artistry of each instrument is amazing. Guitars are so beautiful in their different shapes and the different finishes on them.

I would be upset if I could not locate the same Classic Guitars calendar for 2012. Some day I will find the right guitar for me. Right now I am concentrating on my banjo lessons. These guitar beauties will help me in the future I am sure.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great guitars, inaccurate text, December 25, 2005
By
A. Miller "Rickfan" (San Francisco, CA USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
While Tamborrino's photos are clear and first rate, and the guitars beautiful, Robert Shaw gives an interesting (and inaccurate) history of John Lennon's 325 Rickenbackers. The iconic 3/4 size 325 could never be mistaken for a (full-size, deluxe) 381 Rickenbacker. This makes me question his scholarship on the other guitars.

5.0 out of 5 stars From the Publisher, November 14, 2005
"Born in Renaissance Europe, the guitar has found its greatest popularity, and its widest range of forms and playing styles, in the New World. In the past two centuries, American musicians, playing everything from blues to western swing to rock 'n' roll, and companies like Martin, Gibson, and Fender have virtually redefined the instrument. American trends and innovation have, in turn, traveled back across the Atlantic, where Europeans continue to push the limits of what a guitar can be and do.

"This book of thirty postcards features forty-nine classic guitars selected by historian and musician Robert Shaw, the author of Great Guitars. Accompanying the images are Shaw's engaging notes on the instruments' history and the musicians who have played them. These extraordinary guitars are sure to fascinate and delight---whether you're a player, luthier, collector, or simply an admirer of superb craftsmanship. 5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended, January 4, 2005
This review is from: Classic Guitars (Hardcover)
The guitar is an versatile instrument of fundamental importance ranging from Victorian parlor music and the distinctive Hawaiian sound, to Blues, Country, Jazz, and Rock. Musician, curator and art historian Robert Shaw teams up with photographer Michael Tamborrino in Classic Guitar to provide the reader with a gorgeously illustrated exploration of sixty-five of the most important and collectible guitars of the past two centuries. Each selected and showcased guitar is accompanied by information about its creators and its historical significance in the history of music. Acoustic and electric guitars by Martin, Gibson, Fender, Gretsch, and other legendary companies are presented, along with masterpieces of the guitar maker's art by such truly legendary luthiers as James D'Aquisto, Elmer Stromberge, and John Monteleone. A very highly recommended addition to personal, professional, academic, and community library Music History collections, Classic Guitars is impressively enhanced with an impressively informed and informative introduction concisely describing the guitar's quite lengthy evolution as well as the twentieth-century explosion of creativity that has resulted in hundreds of outstanding American luthiers and the production of millions of guitars worldwide.
