Biography

Jerry Lee Lewis, the Killer, is the rock n' roll singer-songwriter and pianist, whose enduring image will be him standing at the piano, limbs flailing, quiff flying, while he belts out "Great Balls of Fire" - his signature tune.

Lewis developed his style early, mixing boogie-woogie, rock, gospel and rhythm and blues. As a youth he was expelled from university for playing 'worldly' music. He moved… Read more in Amazon's Jerry Lee Lewis Store

5.0 out of 5 stars A truly awesome collection by a national treasure! Rock on!, August 6, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: 20 Classic Hits (Audio CD)
This collection truly demonstrates why Jerry Lee Lewis was the one our parents were most afraid of -- rowdy, leering, driving, covering new ground in popular music with incredible energy. Yessir! Ole Jerry played the devil's music better than old Nick ever could have. Among older types it's something of a parlor game as to who was really the king of rock and roll: Jerry Lee or Elvis. Let's say that Elvis played to the sociable, acceptance-seeking side of rock while Jerry Lee conjured up the shadowy side of rock. And, dammit, it's Jerry Lee Lewis who I put in the player and crank up the volume when I'm in my car and need to chase away the blues! Long live Jerry Lee Lewis; he did us southerners proud and he spoke for our anarchistic souls!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Killer's Best Collection Of Hits, April 8, 2000

Jerry Lee Lewis was the bad boy of rock & roll-and so what? The man's enormous talent shines through in every song on this collection. As the previous reviewer noted, back in the 50s parents really did panic when they heard his music coming from their kids' bedroom record players. For a great version of his life story, rent the video Great Balls Of Fire-Dennis Quaid accurately portrayed The Killer. For true lovers of real rock and roll-this is the only Jerry Lee Lewis collection you'll need. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Plesant surprise, December 19, 2001

This review is from: 20 Classic Hits (Audio CD)
When I ordered this CD I thought it would be a collection of his re-recorded hits. But they turned out to be the originals and that was a plus. Jerry Lee's personality really comes thru on his recordings. Elvis wasn't the only guy out there during the halcyon days of rock n' roll.
